Sevco fans caught in singing storm

|

Scottish Football League news

Sevco have been forced into issuing a statement after the sectarian singing of supporters was highlighted by ESPN.

Experienced anchor man Ray Stubbs apologised for the singing before the second half of the televised match at Berwick Rangers.

Similar songs have been heard week in week out at Sevco’s away matches but been ignored by the Scottish football authorities.

At Hampden in December  thousands of fans were heard singing the banned Billy Boys song with Scottish Football League chief executive David Longmuir praising supporters after the match.

After ESPN highlighted the singing claiming that the police were investigating it a club statement said: ”The Club is disappointed by certain outbursts of inappropriate singing by a section of the support at Berwick.

Our fans have been excellent this season both home and away and we do not want to see this tarnished.”

Whether the SFA or SFL finally decide to investigate the issue remains to be seen.

Sectarian singing dogged the old club in their final seasons with Rangers fans banned from attending last season’s Champions League tie away to Malmo due to persistent offending.

Rangers first fell foul of UEFA in 2006 during the Champions League ties against Vilareal. Those incidents led to the banning of the Billy Boys with the Scottish authorities forced into repeating the stance of UEFA.

UEFA had Rangers in the dock again following the Europa League ties against Feyenoord in 2011 which led to the ban on supporters travelling to Malmo.

Sevco won today’s match 3-1 at Berwick to strengthen their lead at the top of Division Three.

    New club, same scum fans.

Well done ESPN for highlighting it as it has been going on every second week as Joe mentioned in his article but nobody’s had the balls to raise it in the media until today.

If the SFA/SFL don’t take action then they can kiss goodbye to any respect I had left for them!

  • Ciaran says:

Utterly spineless and weak statement from the club/holding company. How strong would their statement be if Berwick poked fun at their inglorious 8 month history?

Scum. In the stands and in the boardroom.

  • Who gives a fuck what there singing they have sang the same shite since I started going to the games so won’t start to get offended now. HH

  • Monti says:

Same vermin, different club! Sick of them & more! Lord Nimmo should do football a favour & expell them.

  • hancock says:

Chico doesn’t give a shit about Scottish football or the sfa,,,,,, sqeeky bum time now that a main sponsor’s highlighting the chants. Ps nothing will happen to them , maybe a slap on the wrist as usual. =(

  • Buffythecat says:

Why doesn’t the SFA at least pretend to be doing something against this outrageous behaviour by Sevco degenerates. It pretends to be doing everything else for Scottish football.

This rag tag of knuckle dragging neanderthals need to be hit where it hurts in their zombie clubs pockets. A fine of five hundred thousand pounds every time they are heard chanting their toxic hate would soon put a stop to it. . .and a few arrests into the bargain wouldn’t be too much to ask.

  • Wb says:

Radio Clyde actually “praised” the family atmosphere! When they were informed of the Huns “party”songs , their reply was. They don’t have sound only pictures!
    Hunbelievable!!

  • jaztecc says:

    • Willie Collum says:

In fairness to Sally, you cannae hear a great deal when you are 6 chins deep in free steak pies.

    • frankiebhoy says:

I’ve no time for the whispering gobshoite but I think if meant he didn’t know about the half assed statement his new/current club issued. I’m basing my assumption on the fact if heard them shouting for a wave from him…. and responded!

  • Neil says:

So it takes Ray Stubbs to highlight this….says it all really.
Nimmo Smith, me thinks he will see his arse!

  • Coco the clown says:

As a new club I believe maximum sanctions should be taken against Phoenix Franchise The Rangers. This was the closest the new club will get to a Euro tie and once again Scotland has been shamed. Surely time for a Scottish govt investigation.

  • StarOfStein says:

It wasn’t Sevco supporters it was fans of the old holding company. .Surprised that wasn’t the route they went down.

  • Coco the clown says:

Oh and when is Phoenix Franchise Sevco The Rangers announcing their shirt sponsor. Never mind the racist bigoted songs buy our product, no really buy our product, singing ? What signing, buy our product.

  • Guillermo says:

“Our fans have been excellent this season both home and away and we do not want to see this tarnished”. What are the chances Sevco’s handmaidens in the media will draw attention to this fallacious claptrap.
Surely Jabba must be hiring Rob McLean to write this drivel.

  • Sweeney Hughes says:

Where’s the Dundee Utd gate money and why is no-one asking chuckles where it is?

  • barcabuster says:

Now that the SFA have been shown up, in Engerlund, on international telly, they will make some token gesture. No doubt the whatabootery brigade will have the telly on full volume to try to catch us out. Don’t let them bhoys! Anyway, Bomber will be there waving the elusive deeds! Plenty of ammo there.

  • Coco the clown says:

Can anyone name an odder managerial appointment than the bomber?

  • stubhoy says:

I have thought of one: what about Terry Hurlock pmsl

    • Coco the clown says:

Ok, you win. Odd that old Terry turned down a career in male modelling to become a football manager.
How long did he last ?

    • Craig Whyte says:

Agreed, Hurlock has to be the winner. A fine, graceful footballer tho……..

  • bhoy67 says:

Ray Stubbs and ESPN to be added to Blogger Grahams`ever growing list of “haters”,the Police officer in charge when 2 sevconians were locked up for the sectarian singing at Berwick?…..TIM Smith!! Its a conspiracy so it is.

  • edward says:
