Twardzik header sees off stuffy Dunfermline

Patrik Twardzik Celtic news

Celtic made it three away wins in a row with a hard fought 2-1 victory over Dunfermline at East End Park.

Denny Johnstone and Patrik Twardzik scored with headers in each half after Blair Henderson had opened the scoring for the Pars from the penalty spot.

There were no first team reinforcements for the young hoops following recent appearances from Tony Stokes, Rami Gershon, Tony Watt and Miku.

Young Glenn Eadie made his first start at u-20 level replacing Darnell Fisher with Jackson Irvine making a welcome return playing the last half hour as a substitute for Eadie.

There wasn’t much to get excited about in the opening half hour with only a burst from John Herron or Paul George to trouble the home defence.

In the 27th minute Dunfermline took the lead through Blair Henderson after he had been sandwiched in the box by two Celtic defenders but four minutes later the hoops were back on level terms.

Ann inch perfect cross from Joe Chalmers on the left was met by Denny Johnston who headed low past the keeper from 6 yards out.

Herron almost put Celtic in front five minutes before the interval but his shot from 18 yards flew inches wide of the post.

Celtic dominated from the start of the second half but found goal scoring chances hard to come by.

Jackson Irvine replaced Eadie on the hour mark and almost created a goal straight away. The Australian’s diagonal ball out of defence found Johnstone charging down the right but Patrik Twardzik shot over from 10 yards out from Johnstone’s cross.

Fifteen minutes from the end Celtic got the goal their play deserved. George’s trickery on the left was matched by a great cross to the back post where Twartdzik headed powerfully into the net.

CELTIC: Thompson: Eadie (Irvine), Miller, Findlay, Chalmers: Herron, Kidd, Lindsay, P Twardzik, George (Waters), Johnstone (Henderson).

SUBS: Fasan, Kelleher, McManus,
