Celtic challenge SFA over Nimmo Smith 'punishment'

|

Stewart Regan newsCeltic have challenged the Scottish football authorities on the feeble punishment handed out to Rangers for 11 years of cheating.

During that period of fielding players that they couldn’t ordinarily afford the Ibrox side ‘clinched’ five titles denying Celtic the opportunity of enjoying the riches of the Champions League.

This season’s Celtic can expect to take in £20m plus from European football with the Nimmo Smith enquiry handing out a fine equivalent to less than £25,000 per season.

Tonight’s Celtic statement read: “We note yesterday´s decision that Rangers FC has been found guilty of contravening the SPL rules on disclosure of payments over 11 years between 2000-2011.

“The scale of this amounts to a deliberate non-disclosure of £47 million in payments to players and staff. We also note the penalty of £250,000 which has been imposed.

“Like many within Scottish football, including supporters and other observers, we are surprised by the parallel conclusion that no competitive advantage was gained from these arrangements.

“However, the implications of this verdict are for the Scottish football authorities to address since the rules breached were specifically intended to defend “sporting integrity”.

The Celtic statement added: “Our Club is in a great place at the moment and we are enjoying a fantastic season, maintaining our position at the top of Scottish football and enjoying huge success and profile across European football.

“We ask our fans to unite with us once again as we look ahead to the rest of the season, to the Scottish Cup on Saturday, to the UEFA Champions League next week and to an exciting future with a young squad of high quality players and a talented manager in Neil Lennon.

“Our fans have been magnificent this season, home and away, and as we head towards the end of the season, now, more than ever, we need our fans to be with us and to back the team and the Club. We sincerely thank our fans for their continued support.”

Although I’m glad the club has spoken out and expressed their views on the ridiculous decision yesterday. It must surely only be the start. We NEED action! Strong leadership from Lawwell is required. Our position in this mickey mouse corrupt land is untenable. This should act as a watershed in our future. Dont care where but they have got to lead us elsewhere otherwise they have failed us. It’s Celtic time! Do your people proud. Stay strong bhoys and ghirls. Hail Hail

    • Brendan67 says:

Another impressive press conference by Neil Lennon yesterday, despite attempts to be goaded into saying something ‘controversial’.
It annoys me that it seems to be left up to Celtic, & Neil in particicular, to challenge the so called sporting integrity in this country while the clowns at the SFA & UEFA stand idly by & do absolutely nothing, continuously! The commissions verdict to assume no sporting advantage was gained despite not disclosing £74m in players wages is an outrage. We know it, they know it, the whole world now knows what a pathetic lot we are in this small-minded little country.
As Neil said, “they better get their finger out!”

      • Kendo88 says:

Totally right pal we are a laughing stock to the whole world. However this is a chance now for us a club /culture to start a fresh. Celtic cannot sit back

Anymore and allow this corrupt incompetent bigoted excuse for an association to rule(illiegally). They have failed us and all other teams. But we can only safeguard our future. Lawwell and Desmond’s need to use their considerable muscle and alert uefa and even FIFA if need be. Our association with this broken association is over. Let them

Have it. We should be ready to embrace a brighter future elsewhere.. Over to you Peter and Dermot. HH

  • mark says:

More of a comment than a challenge, not really sure what we can do about another injustice in scottish football pity wee fergus isn’t about he showed the way when dealing with these SFA cunts am sure he would have something to say about it and not just another faceless statement from the club. If Celtic are unhappy about it lawwell should open his mouth that clown at the scrappy isn’t slow to have his say. HH

    • Joe McHugh says:

I think this is a marker- over to you Regan. Celtic have left it to the so-called authorities over the last year, and have noted their failure and appeasement.

      • Kendo88 says:

Joe I understand your point but SFA have proved they are not fit to govern. Our great club has a responsibility to the 10s of million of its people. We need to appeal to higher power. Michelle Platini would be my go to

      • Thomas says:

Joe I agree, no-one can pick a hole in that statement.
Rest assured, it’s released to every available press and Uefa. Over to you Gianni Infantino!

  • will says:

will never change been the same for years and will carry on what a country …..

    • Thomas says:

you’re either giving in when Celts are in a mighty position of power! Or you’re a Sevconian takin the pish!
Celtic are giants here, they are smoked!
Leed on Pedro! And get us outa this wpc!

  • ewanbhoy says:

we cant let this desision stand. every football fan and club in scotland should unite and make sure justice is done

    • Thomas says:

      Now we’re fechin talkin!

    • eastside says:

They are as guilty as sin and everybody knows it, once the HMRC appeal is heard outside of Scotland with it’s skewered “Edinburgh Jury” justice, the whole sordid affair will be aired publically. I wouldn’t be surprised if those looking at the case somehow expressed their disapproval of the FTTT findings and reasoning. If supporters are angry now, wait until the findings of the non Masonic, non Scottish Establishment give their ruling on that sham.

    • martin kennea says:

Yes,let them know that we,as football supporters,as paying football supporters, are not going to accept their bigoted, funny hand-shaking,anymore.Peter lawwell,or better still Dermot Desmond, has got to contact UEFA and FIFA.We cant let this go.No drawing a line in the sand,or moving on,we want justice.

  • jackmac says:

As a club we’ll do what we always do… nothing. Mumble politely and mention something about not happening in my day. It was fan power that changed opinions at club level recently. Time for more of the same. It’s becoming obvious that unless we do something, nobody else will!

    • Kendo88 says:

Defo mate if the club don’t take action then we must. I don’t want to be involved with that illegal club ever again. We need to get out of this backwater and we will flourish, and remember the rest of the world loves our club/culture. We’re too big and important pathetic bigoted little hole. Time for a new chapter in our Celtic story. Hail Hail my Celtic friend

      • eastside says:

The Clubs seem reluctant to take the lead, but if fans mobilise and organise they will be forced to follow.

    • Thomas says:

jackmac, you! are an undercover hun, beatit!
Or! dont read papers and open yer eyes man! Celtic are ripe to negotiate a way out and away here.
Cmon bhoys, dont believe the hype!

      • jackmac says:

Lol. that’s the best one I’ve heard in ages. I’m every bit as passionate about my team as everyone else here. I would like us to leave these poisoned leagues behind and ply our trade somewhere where we can trust the guardians of the game to show a little backbone and integrity. Anywhere else in the world there would have been sanction against the governing bodies. Here, it remains party time. Deckchair shuffling on the titanic!

  • Kendo88 says:

Guys we need to go the party is over!!!
No more dialogue with these spineless amateurs who run scared of the bigots who have reigned illegally for 140 years. I don’t want my kids to be subjected to this corruption
As we have been. Time our club leaders acted and immediately. Resign from
SPL now and pull out of Scottish cup. Time for talk is over

    • ewanbhoy says:

i wish we could but we have nowhere else to go. as things stand we r stuck here untill uefa upgrade the champions league to a full time league

      • Kendo88 says:

Mate right now I would rather play friendly matches until a reform. Better option than playing in a corruption association. KTF

    • barcabuster says:

I know how you feel Kendo. Take a couple of days to think about it bud. There are wrongs to be righted! This is our Fucking country, named, by the Romans after the Scotti. The fierce warrior clans from Ireland. It is not US, who are the immigrants.

      • Kendo88 says:

Mate you are well informed :-). You are right bit emotional and We should never back down from these cretins but don’t you agree though we need to go to flourish and prosper we need to safeguard the future of our Celtic culture for our children and grandchildren. As an old bhoy on an old Celtic video brilliantly put it when asked about the Glasgow Celtic..”They Canny beat us.. They canny destroy us”.. God bless every bhoy and ghirl

    • Thomas says:

Celtic have NEVER been in such a strong position in our history, and the Sevco/SFA know that, I can smell the fear from Condorrat! Now we turn the screw, big crowds, big points, make it easy for the SPL teams to say, please go Celtic.
They’re fighting dirty, so be it, Ogilvie will pocket his salary and leave lower than a snakes belly in a waggon rutt, Sandy ‘Cadette’ Bryson will get binned shortly after.
PS. Dont put any cash in anything that benifits SFA.
      C’MON!

  • mulsiebhoy says:

i note Chuckles Green is demanding an apology…he has an apology for a manager HH x

  • Thomas says:

Celtic need to get out of this League ASAP.

    • Thomas says:

not before they ripp the pish out it for a year or two, it will happen Bhoys an Ghirls, do not fall into the trap of speaking against Celtic, keep the faith, GB.

  • mark says:

F**k it a might as well say it … Celtic need to get out this country but as ewan said to where ? HH

  • barcabuster says:

The SFA deliberately made the SPL look like a right bunch of fuds, by introducing Sandy Bryson’s statement into the mix. This effectively covered the arse of the SFA, and got Sevco and Rangers off the hook. It is now time for the SPL to come out of the trenches. The evidence is there. They were convicted on all 4 counts! No doubt about it! The SPL still havea route to apply their rules. USE THEM! The SPL are merely custodians of the league. WE, the member clubs own it! We all know the rules, they broke them! Confirmed by LNS. I demand the SPL strip those titles! SPL titles! Our titles. Do it. And do it now, for all of our futures sakes.

    • Kendo88 says:

Exactly! Why weren’t the SPL to enforces their own rules, is it just me is it all them that can impose sporting sanctions?!! Its a totally joke but should be now irrelevant to us. Gets us out Lawwell and NOW! We deserve the best..bhoys and ghirls

    • Thomas says:

      Thats the fechin spirit!
      BRING IT ON!
TIMES ARE CHANGING,SANDY BRYSON GO NOW, OR GIANNI INFANTINO WILL KICK YOU OUT!!!!

    • StarOfStein67 says:

Regarding the Spl, well I picked this up on TSFM relating to Spl Lawyer McKenzie , see post/paste below. HH

martbhoy says:Friday, March 1, 2013 at 14:43Alexander Bryson may have described the process. I think you will find that it was Rod McKenzie (the SPL representatives from Harper MacLeod) who derailed the whole case. LNS noted that Rod McKenzie had “accepted that no provision of the Rules enabled the Board of the SPL retrospectively to terminate the registration of the player.

It became apparent from his submissions that Mr McKenzie was not pressing for a finding that Issue 3(c), together with the concluding words of Issue 3(b), had been proved.”So there you have it, the whole case in that last line.

The sly old legal fox that LNS is spotted it and reported it. The SPLs own solicitor was not pressing for issue 3(c), that players were ineligible to play, to be proved. The SPL wanted out of it, and their lawyers delivered. Regarding the Spl, well I picked this up on TSFM relating to Spl Lawyer McKenzie .

      • Thomas says:

no, Alexander Bryson is the chap!
        Sandy Bryson SFA, H U N.
        Always was, always will be.

  • williebhoy says:

Well said Barcabuster…..LNS decision wasn’t a FINAL decision just the independent commission’s findings based on the evidence before them. Time we put ALL the cards on the table not just pre-selected bits & pieces.

If the ruling had gone the other way, we would most certainly have had an appeal to the SFA. So why not one from the SPL obviously with the SFA supplying evidence (depsite being “Neutral”) for the defence of the club who claimed it was a Kangaroo court…we cannot submit an appeal to the SFA. So let the SPL take the appeal directly to CAS and ignore the SFA entirely. SPL rules have been broken, not just SFA ones…time to show who TRULY runs the game in this country or our top league is simply an farce.

Which league attracts the most people, sponsorship, supplies the most Internationals…so why are we being dictated to by minor organizations like SFA / SFL. SFA are merely the clubs, apart from the domestic fixture fillers they have nothing. SFL rely entirely on handouts from the SPL…time the tail stopped wagging the dog.

    • barcabuster says:

Williebhoy, I think the SPL will get a result from CAS. I also think we could get 2 birds with 1 brick..Namely SFA complicity. A down side is we might have to suck up a national Euro ban! (It’s just a might!) Depends how complicit they have been. I expect a great deal of favour towards the SPL for outing them though. At least we know the game will be clean, with a new, trustworthy SFA.. Is that to much to ask?

  • Monti says:

The game is dead, fuck the Rangers!

  • time for ALL clubs in Scotland to callfor the removal of any official in power over these years of THIEF,and a complete non communication with that club who think they can buy history instead of making it.on my part i will NEVER watch zombies play footy.

  • Scott Mackenzie says:

guys we got our response – “we will take it as always, but please note we are disappointed.” ???? wtf is that? it should have read “celtic demand with immediate effect the resignation of bryson and oglvie for corruption and gross negligence. we also demand this disgraceful decision is appealed to a higher power, as its clear to every sane person on this planet that the worse ever incident in world football of cheating/corruption/cover up has been perpetrated here. if this action is not taken, celtic will be forced to give notice to resign from this corrupt, unsporting, and unfair league.”

    • Kendo88 says:

Exactly mate couldnt have put it better! We need strong leadership and to exert power to redress this injustice on the game not just for us but every other legitamate club playing within the so called rules. We need a statement of intent followed by action. Scott I’ll vote for you as our new CEO cos it looks like Lawwell won’t serve his people! Ghod I hope I’m wrong

    • Thomas says:

You can think that, but the course is set.
Dont interupt the enemy when they are busy making mistakes.

  • paulbhoy says:

Breaking news from ibrox charles green is pleased to anounce that lance armstrong has accepted the offer to be come the clubs new ambassador

  • Celtico102 says:

C’mon bhoys!! Running away with our ball. We need to grow a pair of baws here.
No Masonic inbred club or establishment will ever make me up sticks and leave my HOME.
Tell every Hun you know there club doesn’t have ANY titles as they’re not even a season old. Tell every Hun you know your in the 4th tier of SCOTTISH football. Tell every Hun you know Rangers are dead and I don’t know what or who you are.
And here’s an apology for Chuckles Green
    Ffffffuuuuuuuccccckkkkkk. Yyyoooooooouuuu
    Hail hail

    • Kendo88 says:

Mate i want nothing more to do with them they are irrelevant. We are on a different planet. We’re built for bigger and better things. This is just sped up the process of our departure! CFCLCO

      • Celtico102 says:

If I seen a bonified realistic route to another league I’d probably be right behind you kendo88 but its never going to happen.
I agree totally with you we’re on a different planet from them so never let the bastards get you down hail hail

  • mick says:

time that spl step up and be aproper ruler of football take this farse back to basics gulty of tax ,gulty of paying players without proper contracts 47million avoided in tax what every fan in the world should be asking is how can this happen in2013 in scotland a country that wants to go indapendant no seems a better answer and people laugh at us no wonder

    • Kendo88 says:

SPL?.. They don’t have the balls mate. But won’t be our problem soon. We’re gone….HH

      • Chris says:

Gone to where exactly? The irish league? A scandinavian country, belgium even? As ideal as it is for celtic to simply up-sticks and leave for another league, it wont happen so everybody might as well get the idea out of their heads because it just wont happen

        • Kendo88 says:

Ok Chris we’ll just roll over and accept it…No chance my friend! This is a watershed in our future Celtic are on the move so get on the bus. Mark my words this is the catalyst for us to play in another association. What form

That will be at this stage isn’t clear but it will one where if we play and maybe start at the bottom for instance non league in england then so be it. Our association with this association is over. I can never imagine us playing against that illegal bigoted bunch of cheaters ever again I’m repulsed by the very thought. Our club officials cannot fail us. Lead us to bright future your culture needs you. Stand up my Celtic friend

  • neil says:

have never seen so many posts, would like to know what supporters of other clubs think with the exception of one.
I think this might just explode in Sevco’s and SPL -SFA faces

    • eastside says:

Every supporter in Scotland who doesn’t get their facts from rags is as disgusted as us.

  • barcabuster says:

The media would love a wee O** F*** battle. It is not about that.! That is deid, We won, but that doesn’t sell papers. All fans unhappy about this “sentence”, must lobby their club to voice their disapproval to the league. OOR LEAGUE! This mob have affectively been caught running down the road with a stolen telly, Charged and CONVICTED of burglary, but allowed to keep the telly. Phone, email, or write your club and league, tell your pals to do the same. We do it now, or never.

    • Kendo88 says:

Brilliant love it. We have the power lets use it. Hh

    • Guillermo says:

      Baracabuster
Couldn’t agree more. MSM couldn’t wait to interview that “Celtic Supporter” outside Celtic Park after the Oldco whitewash who gave them the “time to move on” quote. They must have deleted a sea of interviews before going with that mouthful of dross. Why in the name of **** are we, in 2013, prepared to accept this treatment? How ironic that the Klan celebrate Britain’s interference in democratically elected governments’ affairs while benefitting from the most disgusting, poisonous, cronyism imaginable.

  • Craw says:

Where is the challenge? It seems we expressed an opinion on the matter rather than challenged the verdict. Fuck they rotten bastards anyways, wasn’t exactly a shock they avoided a punished that fits the crime. Business as usual in Scottish football once again it seems.

    • eastside says:

As Neil Lennon said, THEY WERE FOUND GUILTY! The MSM are just trying to muddy the water, it was the pathetic punishment, which disgustingly the creditors are being forced to bear which clearly illustrates immense fear and favour. If a murderer is found guilty and a judge gives him a feeble punishment that doesn’t make the crime any less heinous, it makes the Judge a fud
