Lennon hits back at exodus claims

|

Neil Lennon Celtic newsNeil Lennon has hit back at the media glee predicting a summer exodus of players from Celtic.

Almost all of Lennon’s squad have been linked with moves away from the club ranging from Fraser Forster to James Forrest.

After the defeat from Juventus Lennon used his twitter account to register his unhappiness about the coverage the club has received and followed that up in today’s media conference.

“The minute we get a player in it’s as if you can’t wait for him to go down the road,” he said.

“They may not to get to play at such a big club, play in the Champions League and have a chance to win trophies year in, year out.

“I always talk the game up and other people want to talk the game down in Scotland,” he explained.

“I was really disappointed by the headlines yesterday coming back after such a fantastic journey.

“To pick up the back pages of some of the papers and look at all the negativity – that really disappoints me.”

While some players will leave the club a move to Celtic will be a priority for a number of players throughout the football world.

Three years ago Lennon explained his plans to Gary Hooper, Joe Ledley and Beram Kayal as they made their move to the SPL.

Celtic’s Champions League campaign has been beamed around the globe illustrating that a transfer to Glasgow can open the door to the Champions League.

Without blowing his own trumpet working with Lennon will also be a big attraction with the hoops boss in no rush to quit the club he loves.

The Celtic boss added: “I can’t stop speculation of players and myself,” responded Lennon. “At this time I am Celtic manager and I don’t see any reason for this to change.

“I want to take the club forward. We have made huge strides this season. It will be difficult to replicate that but that’s the challenge. I am manager of Celtic, one of a privileged few to do this job. I enjoy it.”

While Celtic apparently face a player exodus STV Sport understand that Third Division Sevco are poised to swoop for £4m rated Mexican striker Alan Pulido who has been identified by star spotter Neil Murray.

The ones who go will go with my best wishes, if they want to play for a norwich city or stoke or whoever that’s there choice they can watch the ones who stayed playing in front of the best support there is playing at the top table in Europe once again. HH

I guess some things will never change…

Lets be honest here, nobody knows who will go and who will stay but if we’re being about what we don’t know let’s be the same about what we do.
Put yourself in the place of the player, would you stay for 7,000 per week with a team you love or go to a team you know nothing about for 20,000 per week, keep in mind that your carreer could be over at the next tackle and your insurance will be based on your warnings at the time of injury.
Also keep in mind that even if you don’t get hurt, you have 10-15 yeras at most to earn top money.
I imagine Steven McManus and Gary Caldwell has already earned more than they would have in their total playing life if they’d stayed at Celtic.
If it was your son, what advice would you give?

    • mark says:

If James Forrest wasn’t earning a wage cos he’s a fan, what kind of tip would you give if he was serving you a drink in yer local. Or how would you treat him when he is one of a bundle of people constantly phoning your house for PPI or insurance?

Should he not have opportunity of a mortgage because he’s a diehard tim? Or how about he just kip in lennoxtown and no have enough money to take a bird back, and when he does manage to tap a tenner, the groundsman says naw cos he doesn’t want any spunk on the turf?

No one wants to see the best leave and if they are fans then they shouldn’t be lambasted because they want to earn their potential market worth. And much as we would love to be without the requirements of money and it’s societal links, these guys earn their wage from football. Not engineering, not joinery, plumbing, art, music, drama, management nor any street landscaping, garden engineering, labouring or any other trade, vocation or employment.
These guys play footy, and very well at times. You want them to do it for free? Would you if yiu had no wage, house, beer tokens or any chance of takin a bird back to the gaffe?

And yet you expect this of foreigners?

No offence mate and I’ve had a tipple but seriously.

        • Jamiemac1888 says:

C’mon Raymy. There not on miniumum wage. £7000 a week is great money (approx. £28000 per month, approx £364000 per year.) On that money they dont NEED a mortguage. I work off shore (for good money) but no where near as much as that.

While I agree that £10000+ per week is better than £7000, unless they get that dream move to the top 4-6 teams of England, they are never going to play in Europe again, and possible never win another trophy again.
Glory and Hero worship vs obscurity and blandness. There’s more to football than money.

          HH YNWA!!

Plenty of tic fans have played for the hoops down the years, can’t think of any who played for nothing, give me HALF a pint of what your on cheers

        • Raymy says:

Thanks for the maths jamie but its different to my point. The guy up there says If they’re fans they’ll do it gratis. Which is nonsense. I just thought I’d take it to the extreme to illustrate how we should maybe think before attacking a keyboard with a knitting needle blu tacked to our forehead.

On your last point tho I agree, but if they have more chance of progressing by playing better opposition consistently then wohld that not appeal? Aye, ok, you might be in the stoke team but last week you snuffed out santi cazorla, the week before you had yaya toure I yohr pocket and next week Michael Carrick is wondering if he’ll have to call in an air strike.

A season of bigger money and exposure to possibly earn even more with all tv coverage and pandering the media give to the league. As the man said before, if it was your boy, would you think the same?
