Lennon worried by self destruction

|

Neil Lennon Celtic newsNeil Lennon wasn’t duped by the excitement of Celtic’s 4-3 win over Aberdeen.

For the second week running the hoops lost three goals in the SPL with the security and confidence of last season posted missing in his side’s defending.

Celtic fans went home delighted by the way that the players snatched a dramatic victory in the closing stages but over the international break Lennon will spend his time trying to cure the self destruct instinct that has crept into his side’s play.

“We were contributors to our own downfall,” the Celtic boss admitted. “The quality or ball retention in the final third was poor. We never looked in any trouble and then we give a calamitous goal away.

“We keep doing it; quality professional players giving away silly goals and it makes life a little bit more difficult for us.

“I thought we were sloppy and there’s a few just a little bit off-colour at the minute and maybe the [international] break coming up will do them good.”

Lennon added:  “But our comeback and desire to win the game was fabulous. There was character and a bit more quality to our play in the last 25 minutes – they didn’t give up.

“We have things to work on but I can’t work on them because I’ve only got four players to work with over the next two weeks- maybe a change of scenery will do some of them the world of good and give them a lift.”

Celtic’s next SP;L match is away to St Mirren on Sunday March 31.

my own view if a player needs a lift playing at celtic park then that same player needs to be told to get a taxi out of it

Thought the game for excitement was great the first 2 goals we lost where poor Wilson just falling down was shocking and the keeper has been shite since his call up to England think he’s been tapped up and will be off in the summer the same for hooper he’s just not looking interested and hasn’t for a while really disappointed in him but heard from people who have met him he thinks he’s billy bigtime so maybe better he goes prefer stokes but as seaney says if you need someone to lift you It’s taxi time 100% on the button HH

The treatment of the GB yesterday was shocking and something the fans as a whole must act on and the club should now back them and refuse to ban anybody arrested yesterday seen some things on YouTube 6 police arresting a bhoy about 14 shocking. Time for the fans to stand side by side with the GB after all we are all Celtic supporters HH

Two of the goals were poor refereeing. In my opinion the midfield and attackers were to blame for their poor finishing as usual. There is “we are too good for this”attitude from certain players incuding Hooper, and Forster .These two Englishmen are already back in England and dreaming of playing in the “big league”.

Bearing in mind this was supposed to be a Celtic side fired up / badly stung from recent poor performances with Lennon’s words ringing in their ears. We get THE perfect start after 12 seconds and then allow Aberdeen to settle into the game after about 15 mins…surely we can keep the tempo going longer than that. The equalizer was down to rank bad defending. never mind blaming others…accept responsibility, Wilson had 2-3 yards to deal with the ball and dithered. 2nd goal was simply shocking defending, OK we gave the ball away in midfield but surely the defenders can deal with a simple pass..apparently not.

Lennon says Forster is carrying an injury, who knows…but no such excuses for the 2 Central defenders in front of him, rank last week and absolutely rotten this weekend. So are they still getting the nod ???

BTW I’d sign Ryan Jack tomorrow given the chance, right or left back, right / centre mid the guy can play and happy to dish it out / take it. I recall Brown starting like a house on fire at Hampdump until Jack put the boot into him and drew him into a personal battle, stopped Brown’s effectiveness for the team. He could easily replace Scott Brown and be low cost too.

Summed up perfectly Willie, but I will let you take the heat as I am not flavour of the month with some on here who label people as being huns because you dont say everything is sweet and wholesome when it isnt.

  • Monti says:

Looks like the return of the sieve lol, concerned about the treatment of the Green brigade, something is going to happen here if the Club say nothing & the police continue with these tactics,I fear the worst. I wonder if they are doing it deliberately to punish the club, because their club is dead?

    • mark says:

The club MUST back the GB monti or season ticket sales and attendance will be greatly reduced next season, Celtic supporters can’t stand by and watch other Celtic supporters targeted week in week out and do nothin and neither can the club and if we do SHAME ON US HH

If Wanyama was playing yesterday Celtic would of won comfortably.HAIL HAIL

  • eastside says:

We have a good group of players but we need refreshing. I think Lennon over complicates tactics sometimes, switching players positions too often is causing problems.

  • Gerry says:

    Neil Lennon should be worried.

We have significantly more resources than any Scottish club yet struggle badly.

We were inept again yesterday. We started to look interested at 3-1 down. Not good enough. The buck stops with the manager & I’m sure he knows it needs to be sorted.

We are shipping weak goals every week.

FF thinks he’s going to England next year. I hope he bucks his ideas up so we can cash in quick. He’s turning into the keeper he used to be.

  • yogI says:

If Forster is Indeed carrying an Injury then he shouldnt be in the bloody team.As you all probably aware by now,I think the truth is he is a poor keeper and we should take the money and run.
