Longmuir admits defeat in reconstruction plan

|

David Longmuir SFL newsTwenty four hours after dropping the Colts idea into the equation SFL chief David Longmuir believes that plans for reconstruction are doomed to fail.

Longmuir was one of the three architects of the 12-12-18 plan but while Stewart Regan and Neil Doncaster have kept their thoughts private their counterpart at the SFL has recently been providing a running commentary on the plans.

On Tuesday SFL clubs met at Hampden to discuss the plans but later in the day Longmuir sent out an email to member clubs suggesting that Colt teams from two Glasgow clubs be introduced to the SFL.

Speaking to STV Longmuir admitted: “It may well be the case that league reconstruction won’t happen before next season but it is clear we have to get this right.

“Everyone has their own agenda. I am looking at this objectively and now is the time to put ideas forward.

“My view is an objective one and the Colts team idea was laid out in the McLeish Review.

“All I am trying to do here is stimulate debate. We are going through a huge round of deliberation. All I am doing is putting another option forward.

We have to be very clear on what’s right for the SFL and also for the whole of the Scottish game.

I have to look at how we bring the fans back. With that, I am looking at all aspects of improving our game.”

After hearing of Longmuir’s latest proposal Raith Rovers chairman Turnbull Hutton said: “Colt teams came up at a recent SFL meeting and it was quickly punted into the long grass.”

    This guy is a clown….
Mark my words….He’ll lose this job he has….
and end up with the Govan Club…making fat Traynor’s succulent lamb sandwiches no doubt….
He’s done everything in his power to get them fast-tracked back…..
And they said we were paranoid….

I thought that was the whole point of a job within scottish football or the press, to benefit the dead rangers and this new sevco mob, until such time as tge can hopefully work for them directly?

  • Mick says:

Deliberate muddying of the waters by this man. In my opinion at the behest of chuckles. Attempting to postpone any reconstruction until he can get newco fast tracked. Agree with the previous post, he will end up as tea boy to trainor and co.

A hope he ends up at the scrappy because he’s a f***n clown so he will fit in well HH

    Oxymoron alert: Longmuir & objectivity.

I want more teams in the league. Just can’t face the prospect of seeing the same shite over and over. Hello st.mirren for the sixth time this season…

    Is Longmuir a bluenose?

“Punted into the long grass” would be a good fate for Olgivie n co!

  • Joe says:

In which world would anyone consider opening their arms to a club with less than one year of history, in the third division, and offer them two places in the various divisions, over every other club with greater history and proven past, apart from the Champions of the SPL who were being made the same offer, if only to justify the love for the newcomers?

  • Joe says:

If this move came off, the new club from Glasgow could have two teams in the second division in two years time! How stupid is that?

  • jackmac says:

If they are losing £1m a month can anyone explain how they can expect to fund a second string in the same league structure? Why would our league structure need a second string from two team at opposite ends of the system.

The fact that they are putting the idea of Celtic and (the) rangers putting teams in is that they are trying to push the idea that newco have the same appeal and attraction as before. The fact they are a different team seems to mean nothing

  • I must agree with Kevin Barry on league reconstruction. We need more teams in SPL and not the same again. i must admit i do like the idea of 3 divisions of 14.
