Neil Lennon: Management addict

Neil Lennon news

Neil Lennon has owned up to being a management addict.

The Celtic boss has been in the hotseat for less than three years but admits that being away from the pressure and intensity of the game.

With Alex Ferguson and Craig Brown managing into their seventies Lennon appreciates how elusive the business can be with two of his most famous team-mates, Henrik Larsson and Chris Sutton, already experiencing the disappointment of losing a job and looking for an opening back into the game.

Discussing the seventy-somethings the Celtic boss said: “What I like about these guys is they’ve had disappointments in theirs careers and have bounced back and used adversity as a strength.

I want to keep being a manager. It’s a real desire I have and I love football.

There are days you hate the job but it’s the only thing I’ve known and that’s why I want to stay in it as long as possible. I can’t imagine not being in football. It’s very addictive and it’s sometimes not good for your health and state of mind.

We do it because we don’t know anything else. I was speaking to people about Pep Guardiola who wanted to take a year out after Barcelona. But by November he was ringing his advisors saying, ‘Get me a job’.

There are times I’ve needed a break. I know Sir Alex has a really good infrastructure around him which allows him to go to the horse racing for example.

It’s important to have that, to take a couple of days off without thinking things will fall to pieces. I try to go away for a break but after a day I’m bored and want back to work.

I think about formations, players coming in or out, how to improve the team. I’ll try to play a bit of golf during the international week coming up but I’ll still watch games to see how players are doing.”
