Bhoys battle back to draw with Sevco in Glasgow Cup

|

Paul McMullan Celtic newsCeltic’s u-17 side battled back from being 2-0 down at half-time to earn a deserved draw against Sevco in tonight’s Glasgow Cup tie at Murray Park.

Liam Henderson and Paul McMullan capped outstanding displays with the goals that mattered in the second half.

The Irn-Bru newcomers took advantage of poor defending from the visitors to score in the 7th and 30th minutes but were unable to halt a spirited fightback as Celtic dominated the second period.

Celtic were well served by the midfield partnership of Henderson, Joe Thompson and Connor McManus driving forward at every opportunity linking well with McMullan in attack.

Despite long spells of possession in the first half Celtic paid the price for sloppy defensive work and had it all to do after the break.

Eleven minutes into the second half Henderson connected perfectly with a 30 yard drive that left Liam Kelly with no chance as the ball raced into the top left corner of the goal.

That strike renewed belief throughout the Celtic side as they poured forward looking for more goals with full-backs Glen Eadie and Callum Waters pushing forward to bolster the midfield.

McMullan suffered some heavy treatment from the home defenders but kept bouncing back for more before netting the equaliser with five minutes left to play.

Picking up a pass from Henderson in the penalty box he brought the ball onto his right foot then curled a great shot around Kelly low into the net.

The point takes Celtic ahead of Queens Park and Sevco with two matches left to play, at home to Sevco and away to the Spiders.

CELTIC: McCabe, Eadie, Kelleher, Barrowman, Waters, McManus, Henderson, Thomson: McDonagh, McMullan, Donnelly (Nesbitt 52)

Good comeback from young bhoys but why are we playing against that illegal corrupt club at any level?! Wrong! HH

A good result considering we were 2 goals down, shows great committment, belief in their football.
I’m sure some of them will benefit greatly from the unique experience of such a game.

Still got the home game to come then no doubt meet again in the final.

Forget it mate we shouldny be playing that scourge…at any level. Want our young bhoys to develop but no against them! HH

Glasgow Cup competition…an official fixture unless you are suggesting Celtic withdraw from the tourney ??

Good experience for the young lads in a competitive environment with games against Partick Thistle, Clyde, Queens Park & Sevco rather than the non-competitive fixtures.

Agree to disagree. I want nothing to do with that corrupt bigoted illegal organisation. Hail Hail

Your in for a shock then because I don’t think lawwell shares that thought he would take them back in a second because the stay away fans are telling him in there absents they only will go when the zombies are there. Am with you though couldn’t give a Fuck if we never play them again for me its all about Celtic HH

I’ve no problem in playing them or anyone else, provided it is via legitimate means in the normal occurence of events. If we draw them in a cup tie, of should they survive long enough to gain promotion via league positions.

This was just another youth encounter which has been ongoing for several years, nothing exceptional. Could be viewed as dead rubbers with both clubs sure to qualify for the final.

At top level, I couldn’t give a fig if we never played them again, we have bigger & better opposition to meet. But as I say if they work their way through the leagues they are welcome to play us as are Brechin – Peterhead or Stranraer etc – they all equate to the same thing :
3 Points or progress to the next round nothing more / nothing less.

Well guys I pray Lawwell and Desmond get their act together and takes us elsewhere and realise the fans feelings. We have moved on from that poisonous mob both on and off the pitch. As the punters who want them back Nah! As you say Mark it’s all about the Hoops. Wullie bhoy I wouldnt give the hordes a sense of ocassion playing us. 2 weeks ago shoulda been watershed. Our association with association should be over. Wish our board had balls like the bunnet did and stand for none of it. Would rather play friendlies til reform in euro league. Dignity of our club/culture is more important. GB every bhoy n ghirl in Timdom
