referee Celtic newsBlundering Bobby Madden has been banished from the SPL this weekend to take charge of Saturday’s Arbroath v Albion Rovers clash at Gayfield.

The UEFA ranked whistler had an abysmal performance in Sunday’s St Mirren v Celtic match according to Neil Lennon getting several key decisions wrong.

Although the SFA never make any comment on referee performances Madden Saturday’s Division Two clash will be Madden’s first appointment outside the top two divisions since the January 5 Stranraer v Ayr United match.

After the draw with St Mirren Celtic boss Neil Lennon said: “That was the most appalling refereeing performance I’ve seen for a long, long time. I mean, you can’t get so many big decisions so wrong. It’s incredible.

“I’d like to think I’ll have a chat with John Fleming, but I’d think John will have plenty of phone calls from lots of people and plenty of e-mails to answer too.

“I’m concerned about the standard of refereeing. I’ve kept my counsel on it for a few months, but there have been some bizarre decisions — not just against my team but in the game generally and they have baffled me.

“It’s been like that for the last couple of months, but today has been by far the most blatant performance I’ve seen. It was really poor.”

Euan Norris returned to SPL duty at the weekend handling the Ross County v Kilmarnock match and avoiding any repeat of the Leigh Griffiths ‘goal’ that he failed to notice in the Hibs v Hearts derby match.

Saturday’s Celtic v Hibs match will be refereed by John Beaton whose only previous Celtic appointment this season was for the 2-0 home win over Dundee in September.

I’m the first to admit we shouldn’t be looking for ref decisions to win us games. We should be puting games out of sight under our own merit.
There have been too many games this season like Sunday’s were the ref is shown up to be completely incompetent.
All fans can appreciate a ref making an honest mistake during a game but what has crept in recently is that ref’s are getting EVERY major decision wrong.
I’m sick of the SFA continually harping on about improving our game well they should start by sorting out their employees the ref’s.
this sending them to a lower league game is a crock of shit, they should be barred from refereeing a game for at least a month then come through lower leagues to prove themselves again.
    Hail hail

Totally agree that the ref.was shocking…
    Two points ‘though…
He’s no worse than most of the whistlers in the game …and that’s a serious issue.
The standard of Scottish refereeing is pathetic…not just for us…but for everyone.
And unless it gets sorted….it will get worse.
    Second thing is…
It shouldn’t deflect us away from our performance…
It was poor,by our standards,….and I’ve no idea what’s going on in the team…we are going backwards…too fast for my liking…
Teams don’t fear us anymore…in fact they welcome the challenge…
You need to fix it Lenny…
    SOON…

At the end of the day we are always trying to deflect blame away from the teams performances…”the refs was poor”…”the team were travelling for 4 hours”…”we only had 2 days to train”…”the pitch was poor”…what next?Naming of players(in the media)that are having bad games doesnt help moral one bit either,we can see who is performing badly we dont need to be told,it is up to the coaching staff to take them aside and say”right what the f*** is going on?do you want to play or just pick up the wages?”.The way we play and the chopping and changing of the team is down to the coaching staff, the players only follow their instructions.Granted we have had a lot of injuries but with our depth in the squad we should have won this league a long time ago.For the players sitting on the bench week in and week out not getting a game(Paddy McCourt being one) it must be soul destroying when they watch the mediocre performances that are being put in.Too many great players have become poor ones overnight and I would like to know the reason why.
