Matthews ready for return

|

Adam Matthews Celtic newsAdam Matthews is back in full training and could be in the Celtic side to face Hibs today.

The full-back suffered a serious hamstring injury away to Juventus last month and missed out on Wales’ 2-1 win over Scotland at Hampden as well as Celtic duty.

Neil Lennon is hoping to have a near full strength squad for next Sunday’s Scottish Cup semi-final against Dundee United with a number of players returning to fitness.

“Adam Matthews is fit, he’s back training with the squad,” the Celtic boss told Celtic tv on Thursday.

“James Forrest is doing some light training, he has a foot problem, we’re targeting the semi-final for him. Mikael Lustig should be fit for the weekend, Lassad has a calf strain so hopefully he’ll start training on Monday.

“Kris Commons twisted his ankle when Beram fell into him but we’re hoping he’ll be ok for the weekend.”

With a league title and Scottish Cup Final place up for grabs over the next fortnight Lennon is hoping to see his side recapture top form.

“We have had a bit of a lull since the Champions League exit and we need to get that sorted,” the Celtic boss stated. “We need to invigorate the group and get that buzz back.

“There’s no doubt Europe’s had a huge emphasis on our season. I just want us to play well again, with a bit of free-flowing football, which has been missing.

“There’s not been much evidence of it in the past few weeks. Europe energised the players, but there’s been a bit of flatness since we went out of that competition.”

Good result yesterday but I felt the use of subs was again poor, 3 up with 30 mins to go was the ideal chance to put on Rogic & Watt yet we wasted the opportunity.

Nothing learned from giving McCourt an outing, nor bringing on Samaras with the game already won, just meant a re shuffle of the side when it wasn’t needed.
