Show racism a quiet word in Charles' ear

|

racist rangers

So called anti-racism group Show Racism The Red Card were disappointed by Charles Green’s racist comments in a Sunday newspaper interview.

In a press release that was subsequently updated to include a response from the Sevco CEO Ged Grebby of SRTRC said: “The comments of Charles Green are very ill-advised and someone in his public position should really know better than to use this kind of racist and offensive language.

“The use of the term “Paki” is highly offensive and it is something that we at Show Racism the Red Card are trying to educate young people against. For the CEO of Rangers to use the term in any context is not helpful as it sends out the wrong message to young people.

“Show Racism the Red Card has a long standing working relationship with Rangers FC. The club is an excellent supporter of our anti-racism and anti-sectarianism campaigns.”

Faced with high profile racism in the world of football it appears that the ‘UK’s anti-racism educational charity’ don’t want to be seen rocking the boat and challenging racism. Similar to their lack of interest in the so-called Famine Song which was only tackled after being raised at government level by the Irish consulate in Edinburgh.

Rather than issuing a hard hitting statement on Green or pressurising the SFA into taking action SRTRC appear to be more interested in maintaining their campaigns with the club.

Clearly those campaigns are given lip service by Sevco when their most public figure jokes about his use of racist terms and goes on television to justify it in an interview with STV.

Next time SRTRC are arranging a photo shoot or some other publicity stunt it’s probably best to remember that when confronted by racism within Scottish football they prefer to look the other way rather than issue a red card.

I’m sorry did I read that right .. That rangers has been a long time excellent supports of this …, anti racism and anti sectarianism ..so calling Celtic fans Fenian b@stards is ok ????

It’s hard to tell if some of these people in important public positions are biased or bigoted themselves, or if they’re just running scarred.

It would be nice though, if just for once, one of them actually did their job properly and clobbered Charlie.

  • eastside says:

I emailed this organization when a large section of Sevco supporters sang the racist famine song WHILST players were lined up displaying red cards to support this initiative, their response was pathetic, there’s nothing they can do etc etc, no condemnation, no anger, just mild disappointment. One Clubs supporters in the whole of Britain disgraces their organisations display and SRTRC weakly express mild disappointment, pathetic.

    • Jimbo102 says:

      I totally agree Eastside.

Organisations like the SRTRC are I’m afraid toothless. Their intentions are well meant and their message is well taken by decent people.

Racism/sectarianism is an Anglo/British trait and is endemic throughout every aspect of our society.its been proven that it exists at the very heart of the establishment in politics, police and the judiciary.

We cannot rely on groups like SRTRC or the Establishment to eradicate this problem.

All we can do as football supporters is show our feelings individually and as a group at every opertunity to voice our disgust towards racism/sectarianism.

I’m afraid there is a soft underbelly when it comes to these issues. The most racially abused player to play in Scotland over the last thirty years wasn’t Mark Walters or Bobo Balde it was a young Glasgow bhoy his name Aiden McGeady and absolutely Hee Haw was done about it.

Here’s where we are at, its now OPENLY acceptable to forbid a man to bless himself for fear of a backlash, it’s now OPENLY acceptable to use racist language in public as long as its directed at a friend of yours. The green brigades banner protests are legendary and I would plead with them to do something spectacular on the anti racism issue.

Jimbhoy,As a sociast and proud to be trade unionist,I have been spending my life fighting injusticies and the network of masonic and orange institutions that who you know or where you may spend your Tuesday nights ensure you get elevated to positions that in most cases the individual isnt anywhere near qualified for.

Only in this neck of the woods are you forbidden to make the sign of the cross on entering a football park, but any other religion is given approval to show publicly, but not the Roman Catholic Faith. You chose the correct word in your appraissal Jimbhoy,It is endemic in british Society.Incidentally I am not Catholic ,but I know what is right and what is very ,very wrong and have fighting a losing battle for many years I am sad to say.

            Jimbo and yogi

I suffered as a member of the Ravenscraig community. I witnessed the devastation caused by her policies in the Motherwell area, the coal mining communities and the ship yards. I had personal experience of her clamp down on benefits and support for the less better off and like you saw her greedy protégées lord it over the rest of the population with their Saabs and their champagne suppers after “shafting” the economy. What I am saying is that we only demean ourselves and reduce ourselves to that level when we make comments that are not worthy of good decent human beings. My preference would be silence and let her memory drift into oblivion. That is what would have hurt her most and would be a slap in the face to those who would glorify her. By raging at her we only allow them to continue the charade that surrounds her. Blessed are those…….

“Yours in Celtic and our club Ethos.” I really loved that, yogi. Even in our differences we are still one.

Pensioner bhoy, I respect your views but please do not insinuate that I am demeaning myself by talking ill of possibly the most evil leader that Britain has ever seen.
“Suffer in silence” NEVER. That’s exactly what these despots would like you to do, like dogs or slaves.
What she stood for as a person and politician goes against every fibre in my body.
From her husbands blatantly open racism to her sons sordid arms dealing, I class that whole family the same way I would class the Cauchescu’s of Romania or the Marquez’s of the Philipines, the world would be a better place without them.
We are Celtic supporters who’s foundations are built on solid principles of social justice and fairness. So in fairness I would ask you to respect mine and other supporters points of view. Would I have challenged my grandfather because he celebrated the death of hitler? Definitely not, well in my view Thatcher done more damage to her own people than he did.

I can well understand where your anger comes from as I, my family and friends suffered like millions of others from her insidious policies. But I do not think you do yourself justice by using the language you did in referring to Mrs. Thatcher and her afterlife. Showing your dignity as a human being is far more effective and will prove much more than an uncontrolled personal tirade. I believe you have the right to be proud of what you have undertaken over the years but to slide into abusive tirades only demeans you, creates enmity, deters support and diminishes your achievements.

With respect Sir, And I am sincere in my respect for you,but Like you I remember well The men At Orgreave being beaten to a pulp by British Soldiers Masquerading as Police Officers. This was arranged at the highest level and we all knew at the time whose hands were all over the orders. She brought in Ian macgregor from the U.S.to dismantle a successful steel industry where the people at Ravenscraig were providing BMW with top quality steel, but she wanted Derby to get the work at the Expense of Motherwell. I could list many more situations as I am sure we all could who lived and fought the most vindictive and provocative p.m. who was determined to eradacate hard fought for rights,so I say again My personal thoughts are of revenge at this hour and I make no Apologies for it,but I do respect you and maybe You are more forgiving than I could ever be to Thatcher.Yours in Celtic and our club Ethos.

          • Jimbo102 says:

            Sorry pensioner bhoy,
The vitriol aimed at her in her death is in my eyes totally justified. As for the glorification of her in her followers eyes they think will be justified.
She single handedly crushed the social and collective soul out of Britain and introduced the Greed is good culture.
Her part in the Irish troubles is appaling.
She destroyed millions of families by crushing communities and puting their citizens on to invalidity benifit, which the legacy is still felt today.
I only met her the once, it was on a sunny May Day at hampden in 1988 at the Dundee Utd cup final where
60,000 literally gave her the red card.
I have always worshiped the ground that’s comming to her and now she will have to answer to a higher authority for her actions. Today indeed has been a day of days.
            Hail hail

It’s not really a British thing, It’s more a Scottish thing, born and raised in Glasgow went to a catholic school, now live in Essex. went to a wedding a few years back held in a C of E church, I was surprised when the Apostils Creed was being preached, especially the line I believe in the Holy Catholic Church, no one down here batted an eye lid. I don’t think for a moment that would have been said in the C of S. Just a wee thought!

To be fair to SRTRC, there is nothing they can actually do. They can express disgust, anger, apathy or any other emotion but they are reliant on the game governing body to do something. As we have already seen this season and I’m sure are still seeing today with fixtures, the game governing body in Scotland are nothing more than self-serving leeches who only act if they can gain

    • eastside says:

They could have publicly condemned the racism, especially considering it was a display organised by themselves that was marred. They said nothing.

SRTRC is a murray invention designed to marginalise ‘Nil By Mouth’ while syphoning of the cash that kept it going. NBM were actually about something, originally, after the worst and most disgusting cowardly murder in the history of British football. NBM would have been a constant reminder of just how vile the huns are. This could not be tolerated.
In this respect SRTRC were very effective. Thet accomplished exactly what they set out to do.
Challs was obviously told by someone at some point that ‘we are rangers, this is Scotland, we are the peepel, we get so say what we want and no one will have anything to say about it’.

    Seemingly he was not wrong.

  • NoPretender! says:

Thats a pathetic statement from SRTRC. I guess this is evidence that SRTRC are just as Bigoted as as the Scum at Detox Park. Maybe its time someone made a DVD of the Sectarian bile that been coming from that stain on Scottish football known as TRFC & ask SRTRC to explain their comments?

  • Andybhoy says:

The double standards in this country defies belief at times. Last week we had Neil Lennon splashed all over the back pages of the Daily Record for calling Jim Goodwin a ‘f*cking f*nny’ and yet yesterday not one single mention of Charles Green’s racist comments could be found ANYWHERE in their newspaper.

Given the fact that every other media outlet in the country thought Green’s disgraceful comments were newsworthy (some more critical than others it has to be said) why is it that the Daily Record didn’t utter a single word. Shameful!

Also why is it that those sanctimonious guardians of decency at the SFA didn’t waste any time at all announcing it would be taking action against Neil Lennon for the grievous crime of swearing yet their silence on Green’s racist comments remains deafening.

The day Celtic remove themselves from the cesspit of scottish football can’t come soon enough!

    • OZ CELT says:

Different rules for that mob cause lets face it whats happened lately with HMRC,NIMMO SMITH,sfa membership etc proves they make the rules

agree it will be a great day for Celtic to play outwith Scotland preferably in some sort of European set-up,sad to say cause im from Scotland

  • Sweeney Hughes says:

Challs (Wilfred Pickles???) says ‘Imran hasn’t complained’.

    He just doesn’t get it.

  • D Hendricks says:

I have E mailed SRTRC about their statement re Charles green here is their reply , much like their statement still letting a man , who uses racist language on a constant basis , off the hook

    Thank you for your email.

Racism and sectarianism are unacceptable in all aspects of society, and we will continue to campaign and educate against such behaviour. We work proactively across Scotland with young people and adults to promote important anti-racism / anti-sectarianism messages and the dangers of racism / sectarianism.

As a campaign we are proactive in promoting our strong anti racism / anti-sectarianism stance in the media and via our website. Show Racism the Red Card was outraged by Charles Green’s use of the term ‘Paki’ and we have spoke out about this. It was really disappointing for the Chief Executive of Rangers FC to make such irresponsible and damaging comments when the campaign has a long standing relationship with Rangers FC and they are excellent supporters of our anti-racism and anti-sectarianism events and initiatives.

Unfortunately, we are not a policy making body, we are an educational charity, therefore, if you would like to make a formal complaint we would urge you to contact the Scottish Football Authorities and Rangers FC.

If I can be any further assistance to you please do not hesitate to contact me.

    Best regards

They say in reply to you which is private they were ” outraged ” by Greens comments which was a lot stronger than their comment to MSM

Either they are cowards or have been bought

  • OZ CELT says:

BTW I would’ve settled for a strong worded statement from SRTRC criticising Greens comments, seems to have been a shift in MSM attitude towards Green yesterday, first time ever receiving pointy questions from a journo in stv interview, something going on behind the scenes in mordor that have YET to come to light I think,

  • D Hendricks says:

i have contacted SRTRC again and i have asked them , if someone uses the term `Paki `on a regular basis would they be a racist ? after two emails i have still no reply

  • D Hendricks says:

Here is another email from SRTRC they have totally ignored my question

We do appreciate you bringing the matter to our attention. Show Racism the Red Card spoke out against Charles Green making our stance clear that we do not accept people using racist language and asking he make a formal apology. As Amanda already informed you we are not a regulatory body or legislative body and can not take sanctions against people who use racist language. We are an educational charity and our work is primarily centred on using football as an engagement tool to educate against racism with young people and communities.

It is wonderful to hear your obvious passion for eradicating the racism and discrimination in society. This is exactly the rationale behind our educational programmes. However, as a small educational charity we can only express our condemnation and distaste at Mr. Green’s comments. We cannot punish him, that is the role of the SFA and Police. Both of whom are dealing with the matter. I would suggest you contact Police Scotland and the SFA lodge your complaint as it is good for them to know the strength of public feeling on the matter.

We also await the outcome of the SFA notice of complaint. In the meantime we will continue our role as an education and campaigning charity, which I’m sure you’ll agree is essential for the eradication of prejudice. As Mandela himself said “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”

I have now asked SSRTRC how can they change the world if they can,t stand up to one man
