Spartak Moscow Champions League newsCeltic’s u-17 side got off to an impressive start in the Spartak Cup with a 1-1 draw against host club Spartak Moscow.

After going in at half-time a goal down Liam Henderson combined with Paul McMullan to tuck away a well deserved equaliser.

This afternoon Celtic face Barcelona in a competition which effectively gives the players the experience of a Champions League campaign condensed into a week.

“We scored a great goal and it was well deserved,” coach Tommy McIntyre said. “Jordan Hart had a few good saves towards the end but on the balance of play a draw was a fair result.

“Spartak are a good side and it’s a good marker for us in this tournament. Generally in these sort of tournaments you might find one or two weaker local sides taking part but it’s top quality here, six top teams with everyone capable of doing well.

Watch the goals from yesterday’s match, McMullan and Henderson combine for Celtic goal.

“I managed to watch the first half of Barcelona beating Spurs 1-0 and they dominated the match.

“They play in a similar style to their first team, the emphasis is on passing the ball quickly and they are a club that puts a lot of emphasis and faith in their academy.

“We have our own philosophy on how to play the game and everyone is looking forward to facing against Barcelona.

“Drawing against the host side puts something on the board and gives the players some confidence and experience.

“It’s a tough schedule but every club is in the same situation and we’re looking forward to Barcelona and the rest of our matches.”

In the other match in the tournament Dinamo Kiev beat Benfica 4-1
