Jackie McNamara Dundee United newsJackie McNamara is hoping to end the season on a high by helping Dundee United to beat Celtic today.

United’s season looked like falling flat after losing 4-3 to Celtic in the semi-final of the Scottish Cup but last week’s win away to Inverness Caley Thistle has given the club a boost.

Today’s clash has little at stake for either side but after arriving at Tannadice in February from Partick Thistle McNamara is hoping to sign the season off on a high note.

“We showed a lot of character which we will have to show again for this game with Celtic,” he said reflecting on last week’s win away to Inverness Caley Thistle.

“It was good to stop that losing streak although there were reasons why we had suffered a couple of defeats with all the players we have had out.

“We’re stretched in terms of the squad but it’s up to us to go out there and try for a positive result. The lads can take heart from the Inverness win.

“We were more like ourselves and it was just nice to get three points again after a couple of disappointing results. Our fans have been great so we also want to give them something to shout about on Sunday.

“Celtic will come here as champions and will want to try and go back home with the points.”

United are likely to be without Johnny Russell who has still to fully recover from a broken leg suffered in March.  Charlie Mulgrew is the main injury worry for Celtic with a week to go till the Scottish Cup Final with Hibs.
