While was difficult, Shortly before kick-off the newly married Josefin, a model, photographer and blogger tweeted: “Since it’s my birthday I wish for Celtic to win with 3-0 and for my husband to score!”

Midway through the first half Mikel headed Celtic into the lead and was seen kissing his wedding ring with further goals from Georgios Samaras and James Forrest fulfilling the prediction.

@debbielawlor, partner of Anthony Stokes was first to add her congratulations tweeting: “Your hubby is so sweet @josefinlustig ???? Happy Birthday Honi xxxx”

The 3-0 victory sends Celtic on their way towards another epic European campaign with Neil Lennon delighted by the result on his first competitive match in Ireland.

After four straight defeats in pre-season matches in Germany the hoops bounced back to form to earn the praise of their gaffer.

Lennon said: “The game meant a lot to me, I brought my team back home, I remember as a young boy that the opportunity to see Celtic live was very rare.

“It was a special occasion and I wanted it to be right. I couldn’t have asked anything more from the night- both sets of supporters were brillint- even the weather has been good to us this week!

“If the result hadn’t gone as I’d wanted I would have been getting a bit of stick from people but the team came over, played very well and hopefully the next generation of Celtic supporters here will have gone home very happy.”
