Neil Lennon newsNeil Lennon has delivered a check-list of the qualities that he is looking for in a new striker.

Even before Gary Hooper had been sold the Celtic boss was looking to bring in a striker despite signing Amido Balde from Vitoria Guimaraes.

For three seasons the partnership of Hooper and Anthony Stokes has delivered the goals as Celtic plundered the trophies with Stokes scoring both in the 2-1 win over Ross County today.

Lennon will return to the transfer market after the midweek clash with Elfsborg but knows exactly what he is after in a striker.

He said: “I’m looking for someone who can lead the line, hold play up, bring people in, but ultimately score the goals that really matter, somebody who has a real weight of goals.

“We have been notorious over the years for having good strikers so we’re trying to find another one.”

Stokes could have had a hat-trick today but was denied a clear scoring opportunity when he chopped in the penalty box by Brian McLean.

Incredibly Willie Collum, who once gave a penalty with his back to play, failed to award Celtic a penalty late in the second half with the scores level.

Collum had an exchange with Lennon on the touchline shortly after the incident with the hoops boss standing his ground after the match.

Asked about the incident Lennon said: “It’s a clear penalty, it’s in his back. The view the referee has is perfect so we’re a bit miffed with that one.”

Celtic’s Champions League opponents Elfsborg lost 2-1 away to AIK Stockholm.

The wee scumbags decision not to award such a batant penalty should not come as a surprise to anyone.
From whichever angle you like to view it from, the defender was seen ceary pushing Stomesto the ground with his arm in the back. That Collum continually gets away with this is no surprise either. He is obviously doing exactly what was planned out. These clowns are shameless cheats.

Stokes played well , celtic deserved to win coming from behind ! Commons was man of the match ! The referee was a Hun ! Celts to win the league 2014 up the hoops

ref should be disaplined for this, scots football is bad enough

  • Paul says:

stokes is never a striker! he didn’t deserve 2 goals. On every occasion that the ball went across the goal were was stokes? outside the box. Hooper and any other normal striker would be on the six yard line ready to pounce.

What a silly comment to make. Stokes may not be your regular fox in the box poacher but many other parts of his forward play like his crossing and hold-up play are excellent. See his performance in the Cup Final past.

first game into the season and this referee is clearly at it.He was in perfect position to clearly
See and deny celtic a stonewall penalty.I hope TV evidence backs up this claim and he is
    Reprimanded for this.

A well deserved victory today. Commons should have scored at least four and Broony and Ledley were superb. Collum is a disgrace and a cheat – as usual.

Was good to get the win on the first day which is always a tricky tie. Hope that boerrigter is fit for next week as he looked quite sharp before having to go off injured.
Also thought that Forster should have done better with Ross County’ goal too..

I think we still need a couple more bodies in and Kevin Doyle for me would be an excellent signing if his wages aren’t too steep. Another left back would be good as I don’t think Izzy has been playing to the level he can and someone to put some pressure on him would be beneficial.

  • Connor Glasgow says:

Great result, celtic dominated play throughout the whole match. I think we should look at players like Troy deeney, Billy sharp and Di santo from Wigan. I would recommend getting a strong left back like Elokobi from wolves or bringing players like Adam lalanna from Southampton.

  • Willie Collum says:

Haud on a wee minute here. I never cheat, it’s no my style, I’m an honest man. Pffttttttt….. aye, I cheated, I’m a Hun through and through and don’t yous Tims ever forget it.
