More grief for Bangura

Mohamed Bangura Celtic newsMo Bangura was on the end of abuse and jeering throughout Elfsborg 2-1 defeat at AIK Stockholm yesterday.

Straight from his controversial appearance against Celtic in the Champions League the striker was again in the firing line as he returned to the club that transferred him to Celtic two years ago.

In February Bangura turned down the chance to return to AIK in favour of Elfsborg with the home fans letting him know their feelings throughout yesterday’s match.

Bangura’s goals saved AIK from relegation in 2010 but that didn’t impress the home fans who weren’t slow to voice their feelings yesterday.

“I can’t understand why they behaved like that to me,” the striker said afterwards. “It’s hard not to react when you hear that level of abuse but I had to try and do my job.

“I’m not a bad person, I don’t know why they reacted like that against me, I’m still in contact and friendly with a lot of the AIK players, there was no problems with the players.”

The defeat leaves Elfsborg nine points behind leaders Helsingborgs- having played a game more played- with little hope of retaining last season’s title.

Elfsborg have won only three of their last ten matches with two of those victories coming in the suspicious 11-1 aggregate Champions League win over Latvian side Daugava.

Neil Lennon is hopeful of having the injured trio of Georgios Samaras, Kelvin Wilson and Derk Boerrigter back from injury and available to face the Swedes on Wednesday night.

Got to admit i feel sorry for mo bangura hes only a young guy this nd celts fans booing hims only gonna knock his confidence hh wee mo

    • ewanbhoy says:

the guy is playing against us trying to knock us out of the champions league, what do u want us to do ? cheer him on ?
he has done nothing for celtic to merit praise or respect from the fans so i thought we were spot on to boo him and make him feel uncomforable, after all we wanted to put him off so he didnt score against us.
what would u rather lay off him and see him play well and score against us ???
      get real

    • Mildou Wolf says:

Bangura tried his heart out against Celtic who are his employers but the part that really annoyed me was his play acting and trying to get Wilson sent off, he was a disgrace and I never want to see him back at Parkhead, you don’t bite the hand that feeds you.

  • jockyspants says:

who’s advising this guy, Kermit the frog?

  • brendan says:

The abuse that Mo Bangura receives is ridiculous and unecessary. Every Celtic fan that booed him should be ashamed of themselves. Guess we know who the Daily Record and Sun readers are amongst our support now. This entire episode wasn’t a big deal and didn’t deserve the attention it garnered.

    • Celts agogo says:

well said Brendan , Celtic fans seem to dislike more about the club the management and the players than they like ??

      • dar says:

i agree wit you 100 percent booing the lad all because celtic decided to loan him and get game time but were too thick and stupid to put some kind of clause in his contract to prevent him from playing against us,,but that said mo bangura showed his true colours with his play acting when wilson accidentally slapped his face, should be ashamed of himself

    • ewanbhoy says:

      what r u all about ???
the guy is trying to score against us and knock us out of the champions league!
if we can put him off his game all the better.
this is why we r the 12th man. to intimidate the opposition, not to cheer them on. get a reallity check.
he has not done anything for celtic so why not give him a hard time ?

    • Mildou Wolf says:

No we listened to what our manager said about the situation, he should never have played against us, we’re his employers ! Would you send him a present if he managed to score and knock us out of the Champions League costing the club 22 million ? I’m sure people like you aren’t actually Celtic fans and are just pretending.

  • macca says:

I didnt really care if he played or not but having watched Banguras play acting against Celtic, i would have no sympathy for him whatsoever. How he could do that against Celtic is beyond me and i doubt very much if he will play for Celtic again.

  • EOJBHOY says:

I feel sorry for Bangura, the guy is only trying to do his job. The guy was in a real awkward position and is being badly advised when he played last week against Celtic.

What he doesn’t need is players telling him he will not be welcome back at the club if he plays/scores, that was a lack of professionalism I thought.

    • ewanbhoy says:

what about his play acting and trying to get Wilson sent off?
he has no loyaty to celtic so why should we bo loyal to him?

  • Andybhoy says:

You’ve got to feel sorry for the guy he’s took dogs abuse over the last week and done nothing to deserve it. AIK made a few million on him when he left and we don’t rate him enough to play him so he’s got to play his football somewhere.

However football can be a cruel game at times and if he had scored against us last week and put our CL qualification in jeopardy I don’t think we would be so sympathetic, thats just the way it goes.

    Hail Hail.

  • Andy says:

We need to learn from this episode, its given the MSM ammunition to again attack our great club.
If we loan players out get it written in the contract,no playing against your employers.
The MSM are desperate for him to score on Wed.

  • Stefan says:

‘Elfsborg have won only three of their last ten matches with two of those victories coming in the suspicious 11-1 aggregate Champions League win over Latvian side Daugava’
What was/is suspicious about it may I ask?
Bangura is a fool for playing Celtic and will be back playing part-time before he is 30 by my reckoning, endears himself to no-one.

    • Joe McHugh says:

Swedish newspapers have suggested that Daugava may not have been giving it 100% with suggestions that large sums of money were placed on a goal fest, Elfsborg scored six goals in the last half hour.

  • Stefan says:

no smoke without fire? UEFA involved?
I will be shocked to the core if we slip up on Wednesday, already prepared for the last Qualifying round. MTH.

  • Mick Quigley says:

Celtic will win by a couple of goals on Wed I can’t believe the stress about this game that team are not any better than Helsinki in my opinion. I will say 3 1 celtic on Wed. Sammy will run riot and big bo if he plays

    • Mildou Wolf says:

I hope you’re right, but they have a very good home record and its a plastic pitch, I think we’ll get through but not so sure about scoring 3 goals when we only managed one at home.

  • HoopNo7 says:

This has been ridiculous from start to finish from Lawell not sorting the guys loan details out to forbid him from playing against us to the Elfsborg idiots advising him to play… Someone, including Bangura, should have known this would not bode well with anyone connected with Celtic…. but what I cant forgive is the couple of occasions he hit the dirt and acted like he had been shot! shameful antics…

  • Busterhoop says:

why we spent millions on Bangura in the first place is what worries me more than seeing him play against us.

  • Sweeney Hughes says:

I read someone say such contract agreements, loan players not being allowed to play against the club they’re on loan from, were not allowed in cross-boarder loan contracts.
It’s allowed by the sfa domestically, but not by uefa in Europe.

I don’t know the validity of it, as I said, I only read it somewhere.

    HH

  • Tim Molloy says:

I think Neil Lennon said that himself. No odds anyway. He’s a choob

  • Jimbo102 says:

I am going to be completely honest here. Expectations were pretty high about the signing of Bangura especially as he came with a glowing tribute from Henke. Wether or not the pressure of this effected the bhoy I don’t know but every time I seen him in the hoops he seemed to me to be a nervous wreck.
We need to either get rid now or get him back to play in the under 20’s to see if we can mould him into something. If he does anymore of the play acting stuff his spat with the AIK fans will seem like they were blowing him kisses when he returns to parkhead.
    Hail hail
