Return for Friday night football

Neil Lennon newsCeltic’s trip to Kilmarnock next month has been brought forward a day to Friday March 14 with a 7.45 kick off.

It’s the second time this season that the hoops have been given a Friday night slot with the previous match a 5-0 rout at Motherwell at the start of December.

The SPFL have been keen to use the Friday night slot to boost awareness and attendances at Scottish fixtures with the Rugby Park match being televised live by BT Sport.

Celtic’s trip to Fir Park caused a media storm after a number of smoke bombs and flares were set off in the South Stand with attention certain to focus on fans for the match at Kilmarnock.

In recent seasons the trip to Kilmarnock has been one of the least attractive fixtures for the Celtic support with regular lunchtime kick-off’s on a Saturday proving to be a turn off as well as Kilmarnock’s decision to abstain from the vote to fast-track Sevco into the SPL.

Celtic’s early season visit to Kilmarnock was certainly memorable with a hat-trick from Georgios Samaras and Amido Balde scoring his first competitive goal in a 5-2 away win.

The visit to Partick Thistle on March 26 will also be shown live, on Sky Sports, with no change to the kick-off time of 7.45pm.

With a 21 point lead in the SPFL the guessing game as to where and when Celtic can clinch the title is underway with much of it depending on Tuesday’s away match at Aberdeen.

If Celtic win tomorrow at Hearts then at Pittodrie they are likely to clinch the championship before the split, however a home win would put that schedule back.

The match at Aberdeen on Tuesday won’t be televised live but will be shown on the bizarre BBC Alba channel with a full re-run at 10pm.

    Joe,

Friday night’s create a better atmosphere
    than early Sat or Sun.
I hope we hammer them, like we did to
    Well.
I’ll never forget, coming back from Seville,
going to Killie, trying to win the league.Their fans were only interested in
taunting us,when they heard a goal coming from, you know where. Then to
add insult to injury, at the final.whistle, the tannoy announcer said,” the final
    score from….”

There was no need for that.As you say,
Joe,they also abstained in the Sevco vote.
I would like nothing better,to see them
    getting relegated.

    Sorry for posting again.

Why was the Partick game not brought
forward to Saturday 8’th March. As this is a cup weekend,Sevco play on the Sunday.
It makes sense for both Partick and ourselves to play on a Saturday, instead of
a Wednesday, especially our fans who travel great distances.

Are fans ever going.to be taken.into consideration. Now ourselves and Partick
have a free day, that should have been
    used.
