Kris Commons hat trickKris Commons was voted top man by hoops supporters at the annual Celtic Player of the Year Awards in Glasgow tonight.

The players award, voted for by the first team squad, was a joint award shared between Virgil Van Dijk and Fraser Forster.

Commons also picked up the Goal of the Season award for his goal against Shakhtar Karagandy that opened the door to the group stage of the Champions League

Last Sunday it was the SPFA that were handing out the awards with the 30 goal midfielder pipping team-mates van Dijk and Forster to the award.

Scott Brown was also on the short-list for the Celtic awards but despite his goal double yesterday it was Commons that picked up the supporters award.

It was a night of celebration all round with Darnell Fisher picking up the Young Player of the Year, Liam Henderson the Academy Player of the Year award with Forster getting a special honour to mark setting a new shut out record for goalkeepers.

Commons was back on the goal trail yesterday with the final two goals to see off Aberdeen as the hoops ran out 5-2 winners.

The popular midfielder made his Celtic debut against Aberdeen 40 months ago and after scoring on his debut has gone on to find the net 64 times.

After watching his former Nottingham Forest team-mate score his 30th goal of the season Neil Lennon said: “It’s an incredible tally, Jamie Langfield made a wonder save from his chip as well, his imagination at times is fantastic, but you always fancy Kris to score – whether it be left or right foot. He’s had a wonderful season and capping it off with 30 goals is terrific.”
