Ronny Deila is likely to make his Celtic debut in Iceland with the hoops in talks with KR Reykjavik about switching the ties.

Celtic were drawn as the home side with the first leg scheduled for Murrayfield on July 15/16 with the return leg the following week.

UEFA are happy to accommodate clubs wishing to switch the ties around with Celtic and Cliftonville switching the venues to ensure that the Belfast side got as much exposure as possible from the visit of Neil Lennon’s champions.

Switching the ties for the clash with KR Reykjavik would suggest that the Icelandic side are more interested in cashing in on the visit of Celtic than making progress.

KR have a poor record in European competitions over the last decade and could switch the tie with Celtic to the 15,000 seater national stadium.

An announcement is expected tomorrow once the details have been confirmed with UEFA but hoops fans checking out accommodation will have noticed that hotels for July 22/23 are already showing up as more expensive than for the previous week.

Deila will meet his squad tomorrow for the first time and is looking forward to getting started with his priority to match the Champions League qualification achieved in each of the last two seasons.

Reacting to today’s draw the new Celtic boss said: “Reykjavik are a good team and Icelandic football has improved a lot in the last few years.

“We have to treat them with respect but we are favourites and we are going to do everything to win the game.

“I have never been to Iceland so it’s going to be fun to go up there. I’m excited and I’m really looking forward to the game.”
