campbell ogilvieDesperate Dave Murray fears that Sevco are on the brink of following Rangers into liquidation.

The man who was ‘duped’into selling the old club to Craig Whyte for £1 in May 2011 was speaking out to deflect attention away from winding up orders for nine companies in his fading business empire.

For over a month now the distress signals have been coming out from Ibrox with no sign of anyone coming forward to donate the £6.5m needed to keep the club afloat into February.

Whyte’s takeover also landed the incoming billionaire with a £6.5m bill for the wee tax case but missing the irony of the situation Murray fears that new investors may discover more than they had bargained for.

The fact of the matter is the club needs money and resources as quickly as possible,” he told The Herald.

“Dave King and the Three Bears I’m sure have the right intentions for the club, but they must be in a dilemma about how they take it to the next stage when the other sides don’t seem to be willing partners.

“I take my hat off to the people who are trying to do the right thing, and let’s hope they’re successful, but whatever way they are going to do it it’s going to need more money.”

Murray’s success was as chairman was built on a mountain of debt that no one cared for as the trophies piled up to match the embarrassing performances on the level playing fields of Europe.

A limitless overdraft from the Bank of Scotland funded Murray’s first decade before the EBT scheme robbed the chancellor of millions in order to fund the lifestyles of Stefan Klos, Christian Nerlinger, Neil McCann, Barry Ferguson and others for the final years of his Ibrox reign. Murray also paid himself an EBT of £6m.

Returning to the favoured theme of ‘Rangers’-minded men in charge of the club rather than people capable of running a sustainable business living within it’s means the master of moonbeams added: “I don’t know what anyone is trying to do at the minute. I don’t mean to be smart.

“What we’d like to see is Rangers in the hands of Rangers-minded people but I wish someone would come out and tell us what their strategy is.

“Is Dave King working solo? Are the Three Bears working solo? If they are, they are going to have to come up with some more money.”

It seems that spending more money is the only answer being offered to the club at Ibrox.

It seems that it’s too late for Sevco to start living within their means with speculation underway that a third club is set to be created, living within their means never seems to be an option.

If the new club is unable to generate strong retail deals, source and sell on players and compete in the Champions League they will follow both of their predecessors into oblivion by trying to ‘beat Selik’ by whatever means.
