Charles Green has slammed Ally McCoist and admitted that he regrets quitting Ibrox.

The big handed Yorkshireman stepped down as chief executive of Sevco in April 2013 after a manufactured race row and picked up just over £1m for 10 months in the spotlight.

Green fronted the consortium that bought the assets from Duff & Phelps for £5.5m, cutting Craig Whyte and Sevco 5088 out in the process as Sevco Scotland transformed into The Rangers with the approval of the SFA.

Despite leading Sheffield United into financial despair 20 years earlier a few sound-bites from Green, plus the backing of Ally McCoist and Walter Smith, soon had supporters rushing to buy season-tickets and shares in the Third Division club.

Green left the club hamstrung with onerous contracts but believes that he provided good value and left the club on a sound financial footing.

“I raised £35 million when it was in a much worse situation than it is today when I was sat in meetings with Rod Petrie who was saying ‘just hand the titles back, hand the cups back’ and we didn’t do that,” an emotional Green told Sky Sports News from his hospital bed. “I fought for Rangers, I’m upset now.

“When I left Rangers, there was over £18 million in the bank. Go and get a copy of the statement. I left, so the club could move forward and it’s gone backwards.”

Revealing his own salary details and comparing them to McCoist Green added: “It was going to be double that but we were in the SPL. When we were thrown out of the SPL I ‘alved it. Ally McCoist refused so he kept his £760,000.

“I thought the chief executive previously, Martin Bain, was on more than I was but I reduced my salary to £360,000.

“So all this rubbish that Charles Green raped and pillaged that club is not true, there’s times when I think I shouldn’t have left at all – I should have stayed.”

Turning his anger to Dave King who has requested an EGM Green added: “All Sandy Easdale has done is put ‘is ‘and in his pocket, pull money out and put it into the club. And the fans are slaughtering him.

“Now ‘ere we are with Dave King. Sandy has got one charge and one conviction against ‘im. Dave King has admitted to 40 with the South African authorities.

“So we are going to swap Sandy Easdale, who ‘as put money in, with Dave King, who ‘asn’t. Where’s that moving the club forward?”
