spflHamilton Accies will let fans into their match with Inverness Caley Thistle for just 10 pence on Saturday.

The decision has been taken to recognise the contribution of assistant manager Frankie McAvoy who will leave the club after the match to join Alex Neil at Norwich City.

McAvoy has been with the club for 10 years and stepped up to the assistant manager’s job when Neil replaced Billy Reid.

Announcing the 10p gesture Accies chief Ronnie MacDonald said: “This is Frankie McAvoy’s last game as an Academical. Both he and Alex Neil have given us wonderful service in their time at the Club, both of them served us for 10 years, and of course Alex wore the number 10 jersey with distinction.

As a mark of the esteem we hold them in, we have designated Saturday’s game as a tribute to these significant 10’s and will make the admission charge for all spectators, home or away, just 10p. We look forward to welcoming all our loyal supporters, and perhaps some new ones, to send Frankie (and Alex) off with the acclaim they deserve.”

Accies communications chief Davie MacKinnon added: “I’m sure a lot of people will come along. Even if they haven’t been to an Accies game for 20 years this gives them the opportunity to come along and see what the club’s got to offer and hopefully we’ll see a good game.

The supporters have been great this season but a lot of people can’t afford to go to football so it gives them the chance to come and see what they’re missing. We hope it will be 10p well spent and they enjoy it.

The home gate has doubled from what it was last season which is a huge uplift from last season. I think the game against Celtic at the weekend epitomised our fans and it was a great atmosphere.”

Since joining Norwich Neil has guided the team to wins over Bournemouth and Cardiff with Garyt Hooper scoring in both matches.
