spflCeltic will face a third away trip of the season to Dundee, St Johnstone or Inverness Caley Thistle.

Aberdeen’s win at Kilmarnock yesterday confirmed the top six with Dundee replacing Motherwell from last season’s leading sides.

The SPFL are expected to announce the fixtures this week with a number of square pegs to be squeezed into round poles at both ends of the season.

Celtic are due to play two home matches after the split, the first round of fixtures coming on the weekend of April 25 and 26, and three away games to produce a 19-19 split between home and away matches.

Trips to Aberdeen and Dundee United will balance out the fixtures with those clubs but Ronny Deila’s side have already travelled twice this season to Dundee, St Johnstone and Inverness Caley Thistle.

Celtic complete their pre-split fixtures with a visit to Dens Park on April 22 and could in theory be back at the same ground three days later.

Last season the hoops enjoyed three home matches against Inverness Caley Thistle which would suggest a third trip to the highland capital- and no doubt another lunchtime kick-off- could be on the cards.

Celtic have failed to win in either trip to the Tulloch Caledonian Stadium with Deila and his squad less than impressed by the venue.

The SPFL face similar problems at the bottom of the table with the key fixture likely to be Ross County and against Motherwell.

If Ross County win at St Mirren tonight they will move seven points clear of the Fir Park side onto the same points mark as Partick Thistle and Kilmarnock with five games left to play.

Whoever finishes in second bottom place will face a play-off against Hibs, Sevco or Queen of the South to retain their top flight status.
