SFAStevie McLean will referee Celtic’s Scottish Cup semi-final with Inverness Caley Thistle on Sunday.

McLean has only been given three Celtic matches this season, the defeats to Hamilton Accies and Dundee United plus the away win over Accies in January. Andrew Dallas and Don Robertson will be the goal-line assistants.

The game at Tannadice was marred by the disallowing of a ‘goal’ by Stefan Scepovic which would have maintained Celtic’s unbeaten run going into the new year.

McLean will be looking for a better performance at Hampden than he managed in his last appearance when he took charge of the Dundee United v Aberdeen League Cup semi-final in January.

With Aberdeen leading 1-0 an Adam Rooney ‘goal’ was disallowed for no apparent reason to the anger of Derek McInnes.

United hit back with two goals to book a place in the final with McInnes left to dwell on the decision to disallow Rooney’s effort.

“My first reaction to Adam Rooney’s goal was that it was fine,” the Dons boss said. “The referee seemed adamant that there was a push in the build-up. I think the reaction from the United players said a lot. I did not think there was anything in it.”

The other semi-final, on Saturday between Falkirk and Hibs, will be refereed by John Beaton who seems to be on the same fast track to the top as Bobby Madden.

Crawford Allan will referee Celtic’s SPFL match with Kilmarnock tomorrow night with the hoops looking to go eight points ahead of Aberdeen with both teams having six matches left to play.
