traynor-whyteCraig Whyte will be given legal aid as he bids to clear his name during the forthcoming Ibrox fraud case.

The former billionaire from Motherwell was duped into shelling out £1 to Dave Murray in 2011 with his glittering business career nosediving after that transaction.

After initially being hailed as the saviour of the nation Whyte’s credibility plunged as rookie boss Ally McCoist watched his expensively assembled side crash out of the Champions League to Malmo followed by a Europa League ko from Maribor.

Worse was to follow as McCoist chucked away a 15 point lead over Celtic with the former Question of Sport skipper unable to cope with the pressure applied by Neil Lennon.

Administration in February 2012 saw Mr Whyte’s business empire collapse with the prestigious Castle Grant taken by bailiffs after a bitter battle with his estranged wife was carried out on the front pages of the tabloids.

Earlier this month Whyte appeared in court charged in relation to events at Ibrox in 2011 and 2012 with the costs of his defence expected to run into millions.

Yesterday a Scottish Legal Aid Board spokeswoman said: “We can confirm that criminal legal aid has been granted to solicitors acting for Craig Whyte.

When assessing an application, we consider the accused’s financial eligibility in accordance with statutory tests.

That includes whether the cost of the case can be met without undue hardship to them or their dependants.”

Among those charged with Mr Whyte are Charles Green and Duff and Phelps duo Paul Clark and David Whitehouse. David Murray remains a free man.

    How can this be?

KJ, the award winning journo, assured his readers that the Craigster was minted, seriously so.

Ah but Radar claimed to have been duped, duped………but not half as much as the readers who he sold the billionaire lie to.

Not duped, he lied, end of.

    Wonder what his motivation was?

Will this be the case with him and the media pack when the brown stuff starts to fly……..duped, duped so we were……….again!

I find it constantly amusing at the thought of Radar being such a decorated correspondent, it makes me wonder how bad the rest must be if he is the best the profession can offer up.
