Gordon StrachanLeigh Griffiths has missed out on Scotland’s match with Gibraltar after picking up an injury in the half-time warm up against Poland!

The Celtic striker was one of five call-off’s for the trip to the Algarve for a match with no impact on the section.

Griffiths was championed by many to start the Polish match ahead of Steven Fletcher but had to settle for a place on the bench.

During the second half the Celtic striker continued to warm up with the other substitutes and looked like coming on until Fletcher scored Scotland’s second goal.

After explaining the other absentees the Scotland boss, after prompting by the SFA media manager, said:

Leigh Griffiths, yes, that was the one, yes he injured himself at half time kicking a ball about,” Strachan recalled. “Having shots at goal, another chapter to the Leigh Griffiths, never a dull moment when that man’s about. He’s got a calf injury.”

Using his usual tactic of dismissing the credibility of anyone critical of him or his team Strachan revealed how a few guests at the exclusive Mar Hall hotel turned out to be footballing experts.

The training session on Saturday morning helped then me and Mark McGhee walked round the golf course at Mar Hall,” the Scotland boss added. “And we pumped into Scottish people, real Scottish people.

And they were so encouraging, everyone we met, passed by, there was a wedding reception as well later on, everybody over that period of the afternoon were so helpful, so reassuring. It made it a good afternoon for us, these people picked us up, hopefully that has helped the squad, we’ll train tomorrow and the boys will be ready.”

In Warsaw Poland and Ireland will meet to see who goes through automatically with Germany to the finals in France.

Keep Griffiths fresh for important games

Another cheap jibe at our manager. Becoming a bit of a habit for the editor. Let us worry about our team and you can concern yourself with yours . A big important match coming surely that is of more interest to you. Lots of Scotland fans like myself giving our support to Ireland for the forthcoming game what do we get in return from the editor another snide comment.

Scots went out because we got 4 points of the Germans Poland got 3 and Scotland got 0 if the Germans had won all they’re games Scotland would still have a chance

    C’mon Poland that is all

  • John Scott says:

Have no doubts whatsover if Griff was still at the Hibees he’d be playing against Gibraltar. Yet another example of the ugly sisters showing no respect for Scotland. No wonder we all despise the Scottish sports media and Glasgows contempt for our national team.
