SportscenePaul Hartley has hit out at Pat Nevin and branded Sportscene as the worst programme that he has ever seen.

The Dundee boss was speaking out after his side’s defending was slaughtered during their 1-0 defeat at Aberdeen on Friday night.

Sportscene is regularly ridiculed by online fans with the Glasgow based production coming up well short of it’s southern companion Match of the Day.

With a boring pundit selected from the usual suspects sitting alongside a current player afraid to express any sort of opinion it seems that the programme attracts supporters who wish to pan the presentation.

Over the last couple of weeks the programme has become even more farcical with the introduction of a large plasma touchscreen allowing the pundits to demonstrate their lack of understanding of the game.

Nevin has never had a coaching role in football and was chief executive of Motherwell when the club went into administration.

Pat Nevin doesn’t know what he’s talking about and it’s the same every week,” Hartley stated. “It just sums that programme up, it’s the worst I’ve ever seen.

Back in the 1980s you wanted to sit up and watch Sportscene on a Saturday night, but now you don’t watch it. You just hear people talking about it.

I don’t watch it, I wouldn’t go on it, and I wouldn’t have any of my players going on the programme. Does it have any credibility? No, it’s got none. I was shown it this morning. That’s why he has never managed.

Some of the stuff Nevin is talking about is just absolute nonsense- about shape and organisation. I was at the game, I managed it.

He wasn’t a defender, he has never coached or managed a team. So what would he know about the shape of my team?

I saw the players’ performance on Friday night, I saw the shape of the team, and some of the stuff Nevin was speaking about was garbage. That’s why he has never managed in football. It just sums that programme up.

It’s disappointing, but Nevin probably didn’t even watch the game. In fact, I guarantee you he never watched the whole game.

He’s probably never seen Dundee play this season. He can have his say, but he’s talking absolute rubbish.”

The state broadcaster’s £1.5m a year contract for Scottish football, covering television, radio and online, expires at the end of the season.

The BBC will show Sunday’s League Cup semi final between Celtic and Ross County live but have lost out on next season’s League Cup coverage to BT Sport.

  • John Fallon says:

I already made a statement about Pat Nevin how he can give assestments of games, on Saturday I switched off radio he was on early game in Engerlund Sunderland game spouting usual sh***

Then we have him on Sportscene with usual ex ranger giving verdicts on all games in Scottish Premiership, as Paul says no coaching badge`s at least I got B badge, yet we have to watch and listen to his sermons on football, well said Paul BBC are a joke without Jim Spence

  • Billy McCabe says:

The very fact that tBBC Scotland, have a crap deal, where they can’t show Sportscene until 1030pm on a Sunday, means that generations of kids, never watch it..point to remember, Gary Lineker earns double, of what BBC pays for Scottish Football

  • MNAhoops says:

Sportscene is well passed its best. BBC Scotland lack of investment covering the national game is poor. The quality of highlight and coverage of games is a disgrace. Looks like its filmed with a video camera and commentaries added later. Embarrassing. Often highlights miss the main talking events and the only last about 2 mins. Why stay up late on a Sunday for that when sky have already shown the Scottish goals.

McCoist ! you are a compleat and utter fool.

    • Paul Mc says:

Only problem there you need people who know about football. If it was to guest on the beechgrove garden then you would hav struck gold.

  • BEN says:

Nevin was a good wee dribbler, but on BBC SPORTSCENE he just talks DRIVEL !

  • buffythecat says:

Boring background, Boring commentators who are hamstrung to say what they really want to say; An anchorman who is cringe worthy Sevco and sleekit and a product that has been edited to death to ensure the Establishment sides look good while Celtic can win even when they . . .win. Its all part of the BBC’s attempt to somehow play down Scottish football until their beloved Ranger’s manage to slither their way to the Premiership. Time they were all swept out of their jobs and people without bias put in charge.

  • buffythecat says:

    . . .can’t win even when they . . .win.

  • Charlie says:

If BBC are serious about restructuring BBC Scotland then please start with sportscene, get rid of the current bunch of clowns and get back to Saturday night footie.

  • Kombuchis says:

Pat Nevin, who slandered Cesc Fabregas on BBC radio, talking shite again. He’ll never change, he’s still keeping up the “indie kid” schtick despite being in his fifties. Oh dear.

  • partick bhoy says:

Well said paul hartley.that show is a complete joke, with nevin talking his usual pish, and that wee snivelling sevco loving host.dont even know where that wee rat appeared from.

  • joe mccormack says:

Yep agreed, the analysis is less than convincing, no wonder Hartley is fuming

  • joe mccormack says:

On another subject has anyone further information on the posts doing the rounds that Oduwa’s sudden departure from Glasgow may not be quite the rosy picture painted by Warburton?

  • the green phantom says:

Thank god someone has finally said it – Hartley is spot on . I genuinely despise how nevin is lauded as thIs hip ‘intellectual’ on the basis that he likes decent tunes and is fairly well read. This is a chap who stopped supporting us and started watching hibs because we sang too many sectarian songs apparently and he didn’t want his kids exposed to this – but he has no problem taking his kids to tynecastle to watch an Edinburgh derby with all their.

Rotten racist abuse and is these days nothing but a Chelsea cheer leader and he never talks about their rotten fans and their rotten wee songs does he ? So he’s a hypocrite . ( maybe he just says he is s hibs supporter to make himself ‘acceptable ‘ to the bbc ? Who knows – better than making out he follows Motherwell or st mirren like the other bbc hacks I guess )And he’s a bore , and he truly doesn’t have a clue – and really he’s not as witty and clever as people make out .

So well said mr Hartley – it’s high time someone said something . If I see nevin is going to be in something I don’t watch or listen anymore – it’s all Chelsea Chelsea Chelsea or utter crap . Maybe it’s time they got someone who knew what they were talking about instead .
