Celtic v UMF Stjarnan - UEFA Champions League Second Qualifying Round First LegRonny Deila enjoyed the biggest win of his managerial career as Celtic beat Hamilton Accies 8-1 to lay down a marker for the remainder of the season.

In two weeks time Celtic take on Aberdeen at Pittodrie with the trip north coming three days after a League Cup semi-final against Ross County.

After a rocky patch around Christmas the hoops have hit top form with seven goals scored in under an hour as Hamilton were taken apart.

It was a fantastic night, a very good performance, we scored a lot of goals and could have scored more so I am very pleased with the boys,” Deila said.

“We deserved eight and we could have had much more, we had so many more chances. You always want games like this and I am very pleased.

“It is always hard to keep up the tempo and intensity when you are 3-0 up after 10 minutes but we did that very well.

“We looked sharp. I have seen it in training that we have looked better and better and today you could see what kind of tempo we can play at if we play at our best.

“We have kept in going since June 20 and since Christmas we had some weeks with training and rest and now you see more energy in the team.”

Tonight’s win puts Celtic six points ahead of Aberdeen, on Friday Derek McInnes’ side host Dundee with Celtic welcoming St Johnstone to Celtic Park the following day.

This papers over the cracks that are Deila. He needs to go and we can’t afford to think all is well with him in charge.

  • Jamie Mc says:

Not sure if we all need to lay off RD a wee bit and give him one more shot at europe next season providing he meets expectations this season domestically of course! Minimum of 2/3 Inc the league title which is a standard must with no real competition! If he bags all 3 then every credit to the man and surely then celtic can be no more deserving credible for a place in the group stages!

  • Paul Morgan says:

Tremendous performance by Celts last night especially.when Scott Allan conveyed on to the pitch therefore surely now Ronnie should start with him as he can pick a pass- something we be lacked over the years.
