Rodgers5Joey Barton has slammed Brendan Rodgers trophy record while body swerving the ‘achievements’ of Mark Warburton!

Relegation specialist Barton is working for TalkSport at Euro 2016 and firing out PR soundbites for Sevco as they attempt to shift enough season tickets to give Warbo the transfer war-chest needed to stop Celtic winning 6-in-a-row.

While clued up on Rodgers, Barton, who spent over two months in jail for assault in 2008, seems to have overlooked the fact that Warbo is preparing for his FIRST ever season in the top flight. Rodgers is ten years younger than the Ibrox chief.

You expect Celtic to improve, they’ve brought Brendan in and that will be a huge outlay for them,” the former Burnley midfielder said. “You expect them to go and kick on.

The only thing you have to quantify that with is — and I’m not trying to stir the pot here, I’m being realistic — Brendan has never won a trophy, he’s never won anything.

He’s going to have to do stuff up there he hasn’t done before. He’s a great manager and a great appointment which will be good for Scottish football but second for Celtic next year is nothing.

I’m just explaining how I see it. If Celtic finish second next season then that’s a bad season for them.

If Rangers go into the league and finish second, not that we want to by the way, but that will be seen as progress.

The pressure is all on Celtic, every bit of pressure is on them. They have to win the league, they have to get to the group stages of the Champions League.

We don’t have the same external pressure, internally that’s where we’re trying to get to but I’m not going to Rangers to finish second, I’m not going there to play second fiddle to anyone.”

With Barton expected to be picking up £25,000 a week on a three year deal Warbo has refused to sign a new contract with his current basic believed to be worth around £6,000 a week plus sharing a flat with Davie Weir. Barton has claimed that he’ll sign on at Ibrox on July 1, 13 days after pre-season starts.

In season 2014/15 Barton collected 11 yellow and one red card in 28 appearances as QPR finished bottom of the Premier League, in 2008/09 he was relegated with Newcastle playing just nine matches and collecting a red card in the final match of the season, a 3-0 defeat at Liverpool.
