Celtic’s MSM bypass?

In a major departure with tradition Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers hasn’t provided a traditional media conference preview for today’s match with Wolfsborg.

In recent times a player and the manager have been available for interview/questioning the day before a match under the guise of promoting the fixture.

The traditional presser has given media outlets the opportunity to grill managers on a number of subjects with the first opportunity following a negative result always dominated by a look back at the defeat rather than previewing the next match.

In these situations a coach or assistant manager is usually presented but under Rodgers the availability of the Celtic manager has been rationed.

Appreciating the opportunities of new media to contact supporters directly Rodgers has been interviewed by the Celtic website for his thoughts on today’s match- his first game at Celtic Park after five matches on the road.

Stuart Armstrong was put up for interview yesterday but the views on the defeat to Lincoln Red Imps from a second half substitute is unlikely to fill the back page or generate many pageviews.

In his website preview of today’s match Rodgers makes no mention of the defeat from Lincoln Red Imps

Under UEFA rules the team manager and a player must be put up to preview matches but there are no pre-match requirements in Scottish football although a player and manager should be put up for interview post-match.

With a club website, television station and accounts on various social media platforms there is no lack of options for Celtic to use with the club newspaper The Celtic View now into it’s 52nd season.
