Neil ‘show business’ Doncaster has welcomed the arrival of Ann Budge and Leeann Dempster onto the board of the SPFL.

The Edinburgh representatives have been highly critical of Doncaster and have now brought themselves into a position of power.

Doncaster has survived a number of high profile mistakes but seems untouchable in his position of power as chief executive with a seat on the board.

Responding to the appointment of two of his critics the former Norwich chief said: “There are always things we can do differently or better and we welcome constructive criticism.

Ultimately there will be new ideas that Ann will bring, she’s brought them already as part of the communications working group and I’ve no doubt she’ll bring them as a member of the board.

We’ve got three women on the board. We’ve got Karen McCluskey as an independent non-executive director and we’ve got Ann and Leeann. All of them will bring a new and different approach, as will Ian Maxwell and Peter Lawwell. We are a democratic, accountable, open organisation.

The clubs wanted this board and they’ve got this board. We look forward to working with them to further develop the league in the future but I think it is progressive.

The prospect of having three women on the board when I arrived, years ago, I don’t think many people would have sent that coming.”

After going public that he would stand for election Sevco director Stewart Robertson backed down leaving Budge, Peter Lawwell and Ian Maxwell as the Premiership representatives.
