Brendan Rodgers has highlighted the contribution of Kristoffer Ajer following Celtic’s 2-1 win over Wolfsborg.

The 18-year-old was the final signing of former boss Ronny Deila and faced an uncertain with the change of regime.

Ajer was a midfielder with Start in Norway but stepped into defence impressively today after Erik Sviachenko picked up an early knock.

I thought he was nervy when he first came in but he is a young player and over the course of time he can end up being a very good player,” Rodgers said afterwards about Ajer.

He can play in defence and midfield and he is adjusting to the tempo and speed of everything but he has a lot of potential and I thought after he settled into the game he did very well.

Every player is under consideration. If I see enough in training and games, it’s irrespective of age. He’s got experience and he’s played first-team football in Norway so if that was the case and I thought it would help the team then sure (Ajer could play on Wednesday).”

Callum McGregor and Ryan Christie scored the goals that gave Celtic victory with Rodgers satisfied to pick up a win in his first home outing.

It was a good day all round for us in terms of our preparation,” the Irishman added. “We set up differently in both halfs and the players coped very well. Over the course there were real good moments of pressing and creating chances.

I think we had seven real good chances in the first-half then we set up slightly differently but, again, minimised Wolfsburg to minimal opportunities but looked a threat going forward so it was good.”
