Brendan Rodgers has repeated his claim about making two new signings today.

In order to play against Astrana in next week’s Champions League qualifiers any new signing has to be registered with the SFA and notified to UEFA by 11pm Celtic Park Time.

A flurry of speculation has been going on since Celtic lost 1-0 to Lincoln Red Imps in Gibraltar with the hype over new signings set to intensify as the day progresses.

Last night when he was asked about getting players in to face Astrana Rodgers admitted: “Hopefully, that is what we are looking at.

“There is no doubt we need one or two more in that I want to bring into the team so let’s hope we can do something before that (window) closes tomorrow.

“That would be the plan, hopefully we could do that and that would be a great boost to the squad.”

Central defence seems the most likely area of the team for strengthening with Rodgers switching to a 3-5-2 formation last night leaving Erik Sviachenko on his own.

That formation will be binned for the trip to Kazakhstan with the new signing/s thrown straight into the heat of a Champions League qualifier.

Shane Duffy from Blackburn seems the most likely signing but Celtic are likely to have another couple of options in mind.

Looking towards the trip to Kazakhstan Rodgers joked: “Apart from the six-hour flight, and the five-hour time difference and the 35 degree heat and the plastic pitch with no water, it should be all right but it is what is thrown at us.

I think you just need to adjust, we will probably fly out on the Monday, the game is on the Wednesday and just prepare the best we can. We have to find a way to get a performance and a result.”
