Brendan Rodgers has never rocked up in prison, Joseph Barton has.

While Rodgers was learning his trade as a coach with Reading and Chelsea Barton was earning himself a 67 jail term in Strangeways prison in Manchester.

Now casting himself as some sort of French/Scouse intellectual with real life experience of Premier League relegation Barton has decided to throw laddish insults around at a manager who has achieved more in one season than the one cap wonder has in a lifetime.

Barton has got less England caps than Carlton Cole and the same amount as Michael Gray and Steve Guppy.

Speaking to TalkSport yesterday the former Burnley ace was asked if he had bumped into Brendan Rodgers since moving to Glasgow.

Smugly he replied: “I’ve not managed to run into him yet. I know the places he goes and the places I go probably differ with the tan and the teeth and that kind of thing. They’re not the kind of establishments I rock up at. I’m not having a mid-life crisis.”

Strangeways is more Barton’s type of place, spending 67 days inside in 2008 where he was extremely popular with fellow inmates, especially in the exercise yard.

Being sentenced for a festive assault Barton was told by Judge Globe: “ Without doubt, the most serious of the three offenders is you.

You acted in an extremely violent and aggressive manner. You have a high profile as a footballer and you know that draws attention to you. Yet you drank to excess and behaved in an aggressive, disgraceful manner.”

Brendan Rodgers has never rocked up or spent 67 days inside Strangeways.
