Kris Commons has been dropped from the Celtic squad registered with UEFA for the Champions League qualifiers against Hapoel Beer Sheva.

The midfielder has still to take part in any match this season but was listed in the squad for the matches against Astana after missing out on the squad that played Lincoln Red Imps in the second qualifying round.

Commons has been the subject of intense speculation over whether he can be a part of Brendan Rodgers squad.

The midfielder faced similar questions when Ronny Deila took over from Neil Lennon but fought his way back into the team to earn a two year contract extension in February 2015.

Commons was one of the key men that drove Neil Lennon’s side to three titles and has proved to be outstanding value since signing from Derby County in a £300,000 deal.

Whether he will be able to add to his 91 Celtic goals remains to be seen but his removal from the UEFA list will only add to speculation about his future.

During the summer social media came up with a Commons to Hibs loan deal but that was quickly shot down due to the wages issue and the midfielder being in the final season of his contract.

Scott Sinclair has been added to the UEFA squad with Rodgers able to add one more wild card signing to his squad provided they are registered before 11pm on August 16, the day before the first leg.
