Craig Thomson is set to be grilled by the SFA- over starting the second half of the St Johnstone v Celtic match a minute too early!

Despite another erratic performance of brandishing unexpected cards and allowing other hefty infringements go unpunished it seems that it’s Thomson’s time keeping that is to be questioned.

The half-time break is the key moment for broadcasters and advertisers with their schedules all designed around making the most of the 15 minute break.

It’s common to see someone track-side instructing the referee when to re-start the second half with those instructions coming directly from the broadcaster.

On Saturday Chris Sutton made a point of highlighting the early start to the second half with Thomson set to be grilled by the SFA to explain that decision.

Speaking to the Daily Record a spokesman for BT Sport said: “All sport broadcasters around the world build editorial content in programmes and schedule commercial breaks on strict timing.

The kick-off times are strictly adhered to in the Premier League, UEFA Champions League and other major sporting events all over the world and missing key moments of sport can severely impact the value of the broadcast.

For Scottish football, television is an important revenue stream which helps to ensure that Scottish football can be a financially viable product. Therefore it is imperative that leagues, officials and broadcasters work together to help present the product in the best possible way to entertain audiences across the world.”

After back-to-back error strewn performances Thomson will find out tomorrow if he is to get another top flight match this weekend.
