Brendan Rodgers admitted that Celtic’s inability to convert chances against Alloa made him edgy.

It took late goals from James Forrest and Moussa Dembele to book Celtic a place in the semi-final draw with the League One side coming within seven minutes of taking the tie to extra-time.

After Sunday’s 2-2 draw at Inverness Rodgers did have the satisfaction of his side recording a clean sheet but tonight his concerns were at the other end of the park.

“I wasn’t pleased at half-time. We have to be more clinical than that. To score only two goals wasn’t good enough. Need to be more ruthless. We had 13 shots on target and another 13 probably off.”

About the goals Rodgers added: “They were good finishes. James worked hard all evening, had a good finish. Moussa, a good bit of skill and finish.”

It was a night of frustration for Rodgers and his side with all credit going to Alloa as they attempted to earn a semi-final place.

Forrest could have given Celtic the lead in the third minute but after surviving that early scare the League One side settled into the match and defended impressively.

Scott Sinclair appeared as a half time substitute for Patrick Roberts but the former Aston Villa man was unable to make the breakthrough.

With seven minutes left Forrest made a run from deep on the right across the Alloa defence before sending a reverse shot into the net with Dembele putting the tie beyond doubt in the 90th minute.
