LEIGH Griffiths will be back in the Celtic squad to face Kilmarnock on Saturday.

The striker has missed four matches due to a hamstring strain but has resumed training and is on course for a place in Brendan Rodgers squad for the weekend.

If all goes well against Kilmarnock Griffiths will lead the line against Manchester City in the Champions League clash on September 28.

Apart from the 5-1 rout of newly promoted Sevco Celtic have struggled to find the net in Griffiths’ absence with the return of the striker providing Rodgers with a timely boost.

Asked about Griffiths’ progress after the win over Alloa the Irishman said: “He trained Monday, Tuesday and he should train Thursday Friday and be back for Saturday. That’s great news because he’s a really important player for us.”

It took an 83rd minute goal from James Forrest to break down the resistance of the Alloa defence with Rodgers diplomatic about his side’s shortcomings around goal.

Performance wise we’ll play much better,” he stated. “I wasn’t pleased at half-time at all because we have to be more clinical than that. Overall we had 13 shots on target and probably another 13 that weren’t on target.

So to score only the two goals was disappointing, you have to be more ruthless than that.

The name of the game was about being patient. If you move the ball quickly enough you can open up the sides of the field and eventually the opportunities will come. But we needed to be much better.”
