Erik Sviachenko is delighted to be injury free.

The defender picked up a groin strain in the home win over Lincoln Red Imps and missed both legs of the triumph over Astana.

Sviachenko’s loss for those games was greeted like a death in the family by many supporters but Eoghan O’Connell rose to the occasion while Mikael Lustig and Kolo Toure appeared on the scene.

The Danish defender returned to action at the weekend against Aberdeen and is fighting fit for the start of the Champions League action.

I’m really happy that I’m over my groin injury, even though it came at a slightly unpleasant time,” Sviachenko told Celtic TV. “But I’m back, fully fit and I need to try and get as much game-time as I can.”

Looking towards the Champions League he added: “You are at a club where you always want to play these types of games and now we have two coming up in a short period of time so I’m looking forward to them.

The players who haven’t travelled away for internationals have a bit more space around in the dressing room, first and foremost, but we are also preparing for some great games. At this stage, we are having some nice sessions and a good laugh as well.”

Sviachenko’s injury forced him out of the Denmark international squad with a larger than usual contingent of players at Lennoxtown this week.

Leigh Griffiths and Kieran Tierney were withdrawn from the Scotland squad to face Malta on Sunday while Scott Brown announced his retirement from international football before the Scotland squad was announced.
