Twitter favourite Chris Sutton has been recalling the most iconic goal of his Celtic career.

In April 2004 with the SPL title long secured from Alex McLeish’s tax cheats there was one more target for Celtic to achieve- a whitewash over the stricken Ibrox club.

Celtic had visited Ibrox in October with John Hartson scoring the only goal of the match while Sutton cruised through the game as an emergency centre half.

On January 3 it was showtime at Celtic Park as the hoops hit three goals without reply, two months later Henrik Larsson scored the only goal of the game to end McLeish’s hopes of a run in the Scottish Cup.

At the end of March Celtic were back at Ibrox winning 2-1 with the disappointment of losing a goal failing to take away from the joy of knocking Barcelona out of the UEFA Cup three days earlier with David Marshall and John Kennedy excelling in the Nou Camp.

The stage was set for one more Glasgow derby with Celtic Park the setting for the post split fixture.

Frank de Boer had been brought in to boost McLeish’s dodgy defence but the veteran Dutchman was on his ample backside looking up as Sutton dinked a glorious chip over Stefan Klos (£2m EBT) to set of great scenes of celebrations.

The away support was ready to celebrate a 0-0 draw with a partial lap of honour planned by the visitors but with one chip of the ball the whitewash was complete. Played Five, Won Five.

The joy on Sutton’s face is captured on a number of pictures, 12 years later the former Chelsea and England striker is still enjoying the moment he created hoops history.
