Whinging Mark Warburton has issued another attack on the Scottish media.

Life in the top flight has proved a step too far for the former city trader with his side toiling in mid table.

Last season’s Scottish Cup semi-final success over Celtic and an 11 man summer transfer spree built up expectations that Sevco would romp to the title with the hilarious phrase ‘Rangers are coming’ brought into play.

Teams like Ross County and Hamilton have quickly sussed out the tactics of the magic hat with criticism pouring out of the Ibrox stands as they realise that their messiah is more like Paul le Guen than Pep Guardiola.

For the first time in his managerial career supporters are questioning the man who claimed that Plan B was to make Plan A work better.

Media criticism has been light compared to the abuse from the people whose expectations/ demands are that the Sellik are put in their place.

Rather than discuss his own tactical shortcomings Warbo prefers to attack the media to deflect attention away from his failings in the top flight.

You’ve got people coming in and I’ve mentioned Clint Hill, the level he has played at and the number of games he has played, yet he is still shocked by the media interest, media speculation and media comments,” the Sevco boss whinged to the club’s in-house television service.

It does take some getting used to, so I think we need to give the boys as much space as possible but we are getting there, we are only eight games in, so hopefully as we go forward now we make real progress.”

During the close season (season ticket sales campaign) all of Warbo’s signings were brought in to win the SPFL title with Champions League football hovering in the background.

Eight games into the new campaign it now seems that it was unrealistic to expect Joseph Anthony Barton, Clint Hill, Niko Kranjcar and Joe Garner to cope with the pressures of playing against Kilmarnock and Hamilton Accies.

I remember Erik Lamela coming to Spurs and people saying it took him 12 months to settle in and now he’s producing a fantastic level of football,” the former city trader added.

But 12 months to settle in- the expectation here at Rangers is such that players are expected to deliver immediately, and it takes time.

It’s a different culture, different demands, different responsibilities at the club.

“The weight of expectation, dealing with so many different things and we laugh and joke about the weather, but it is players dealing with different circumstances.

“We’ve got to be a little bit patient with them, but as I say the expectation from the fans is quite rightly always there. They’ve got to recognise it and try to respond that bit quicker.”

Warbo appears to have dropped out of contention for the vacancy at Aston Villa.
