Neil Warnock has revealed that watching the Celtic v Manchester City Champions League match reignited his enthusiasm for management.

The veteran Yorkshireman returned to management in midweek at Cardiff and is seen as a Championship specialist having taken teams to promotion and also away from the relegation dogfight.

Warnock guided Rotherham to safety last season but turned down the chance to stay on at the club with Alan Stubbs taking charge at Millmoor.

During the summer Warnock was linked with a number of clubs but after watching Celtic’s epic draw with Manchester City he jumped at the chance to manage Cardiff.

“What whetted my appetite was the Celtic Man City game,” he revealed to Alan Brazil on TalkSport.

I spoke to Brendan before the game and I watched it and it was unbelievable.

I was jumping up near the end. Brendan was really proud that night with the passion they gave. That is what I missed in football.

I love that passion when players give everything, even if the results don’t go right. That is what I missed and I am really looking forward to the challenge.”

Since 2010 Warnock has had two spells managing QPR, a stint at Leeds United, four months in the Premier League with Crystal Palace as well as four months firefighting at Rotherham.

His managerial career started off with Scarborough in 1986 with the most significant spell coming at his boyhood club Sheffield United who he bossed between 1999 and 2007.
