Gordon Strachan’s patience snapped today as he was questioned ahead of Scotland’s international with Lithuania.

Dealing with the media has never been an enjoyable part of his job but with sponsors demanding that their logos are aired the former Celtic boss has no option but to turn up and preview international matches.

After the media radio station phone-in’s are another bone of contention with the opportunity for Joe Public, surrounded by devil dogs and cans of Kesteral, getting air time to broadcast his views an idea that Strachan struggles to come to terms with.

A day before facing Lithuania at Hampden it all got too much for the Scotland boss as he was questioned ahead of the match.

This isn’t a hotline”, he replied to a question from the BBC’s softly spoken Jonathan Sutherland.

Strachan added: “Oh, no, no, no, no. I’m not going to sit here and answer questions from members of the public. For goodness sake!

“Do you think that it’s a hotline here? Do you think that I’m on Radio Clyde on a Saturday night?”

Speaking on Thursday about the stresses of the job Strachan admitted: “I suppose Real Madrid would be the dream job!

“I never set out to be the Scotland manager, it just so happens that my career has ended up here and I’ve got to say I’m very, very lucky.

“I wish I could take this group of players and take them to a club side and I think they’d be a fantastic club side.

“What a group of players to work with, there’s absolutely never any problems with them. It really is a joy to work with them.”
