Mark Hateley has been dredged up to warn Joey Barton about the traditions of the four year old club that he joined in the summer.

The former England striker doesn’t go into detail about what those traditions may be but believes that Barton should fall in line.

Since being handed a three week suspension on full pay the former Burnley play-maker hasn’t said a word out of place making it impossible for the cash-strapped Ibrox club to bin his £25,000-a-week salary.

On Monday morning Mark Warburton is expected to meet up with the midfielder and attempt to build bridges.

Warbo, who used to work as a city trader, will have his man management skills tested to the full with Barton well aware of what he has to do to retain his lucrative Ibrox contract.

It is a distraction Rangers could do without just now as we have had enough distraction off the field over the last five or six years,” Hateley explained.

All the focus should be on the pitch. That’s where all your stories should come from. In the social media world we live in, it’s not like that, unfortunately.

A lot of players do come to the club, whether it is Joey Barton and others who have played at a high level and fall short of the expectations of what Rangers players should be about.

It is all about understanding the values of the club and what is and what isn’t excepted. Traditions must go forward and we must stand by those traditions.”

Perhaps if Hateley explained the mystical traditions Barton and others would have a better chance of upholding them.
