Radio Clyde Super Scoreboard duo Gordon Dalziel and Mark Wilson have taken over management duties with League One outfit Airdrie United.
From his vantage point in the press box at Ibrox Dalziel has axed Kevin McBride and drafted in fellow Clyde pundit Wilson who has no management experience.
Three weeks ago Dalziel was brought in as a football consultant to oversee a ‘root and branch’ review of the club which immediately put McBride under pressure.
Despite not attending first team matches Dalziel has axed the former Celtic, Motherwell and Hibs midfielder to hand power over to Wilson who retired from playing the game at the end of the 2014/15 season.
Announcing today’s move the Airdrie United (formerly Clydebank) website explained: “The Board has been concerned that the progress made, albeit under difficult circumstances, has not been in line with the substantial resources being invested so changes must be made to address this.
“With immediate effect, Gordon Dalziel has taken on the role of Director of Football and will be assisted by Mark Wilson, who will take up the role of First Team Coach.
“Mark, 32, had an illustrious football career at Dundee United and Celtic culminating in a cap for Scotland, and will bring a wealth of top level experience and professionalism to the role.”
Airdrie are currently sitting in fourth place, a play-off spot, with McBride sacked despite winning back-to-back matches against Queens Park and East Fife.
Dalziel is likely to step down from his role at Radio Clyde with former St Mirren boss Alex Rae his likely replacement.
