Sevco will attempt to force Joey Barton out of Ibrox this week by holding a meeting with the suspended midfielder.

According to a report in the Daily Record, Barton will be called in to Ibrox this week in a bid to resolve the situation.

After being ordered out of Murray Park shortly after the 5-1 defeat from Celtic Barton was hot with a three match suspension which was extended by a week before being extended with no time limit set.

Throughout the saga Barton has been on full pay suggesting that the club don’t have grounds to fine him never mind sack him from his two year contract.

Today’s Record report claims: “Joey Barton is set to learn his Rangers fate before the end of this week.

Record Sport understands the Scouser is ready to return to Ibrox to take part in a potentially powder keg disciplinary hearing – after spending six weeks in exile following a furious training ground bust-up with manager Mark Warburton.

The showdown has been put on hold until after Warburton takes care of his team for tonight’s top-flight visit from St Johnstone but arrangements are being made to haul Barton back in before the weekend in a bid to finally bring the stand-off to an end – one way or another.”

Since being put on a formal suspension Barton has remained tight lipped about the situation at Ibrox, denying the club the opportunity to tear up his contract.

With cash tight at Ibrox it seems highly unlikely that they can afford a pay off meaning that Barton will remain on the payroll until January at the earliest.
