Massimo Donati has signed a two year contract extension with Hamilton Accies.

The 35-year-old former Celtic midfielder returned to Scotland in the summer and has impressed Accies into extending his initial contract through until 2019.

Despite his age Donati has made 13 appearances this season passing on his experience to a fairly youthful Accies side.

Accies are currently sitting in ninth place but with just three points separating the bottom seven clubs more than half of the Premiership are looking over their shoulder at relegation.

When he first arrived in Scotland Donati was a £3m signing from Atalanta in 2007 as Gordon Strachan attempted to create a more continental approach with Celtic.

Donati was a regular in the Celtic side during his first season with the highlight being a last minute winner against Shakhtar Donetsk that took the hoops to the brink of qualifying for the last 16 of the Champions League.

The following season was something of a write off although he did enjoy a brief revival under Tony Mowbray, scoring on his final Celtic appearance before being sold to Bari in a £2m transfer.
