Mike Ashley is set to hit Sevco with more litigation after further confidential details between the club and Sports Direct appeared in Paul Murray’s favourite newspaper the Daily Record.
Ashley will have Dave King in court in London next month to explain why Sports Direct haven’t been paid in full by Rangers Retail with today’s Record story set to inflame the situation.
In June 2015 Sports Direct were given a ‘gagging order’ (injunction) over any details of their contract appearing in the media just days after the Record revealed that the there was a seven year notice period on the merchandising and retail contracts between the companies.
Despite that order today’s edition of The Record claims ‘shameless Mike Ashley was handed a decade-long lease on Rangers megastore for £1 a year days before Dave King took control of the club’ (surely company since a club has no shareholders and can never die or be liquidated?).
A further breach of the confidential contract that was set up in 2012 by founding father Charles Green is bound to infuriate the Ashley camp who have been in the firing line despite his support ensuring a steady start for Scotland’s newest football club.
With cash tight, further loans required in January to keep the lights on and no money available for Mark Warburton in January it looks like a concerted effort is underway from within Ibrox to deflect blame for the club’s problems away from the blue room and onto the desk of Mr Ashley.
Sevco will hold their fifth AGM on Friday, it is unclear whether Mr King, who was described by a South African judge as a glib and shameless liar, will make an appearance.
