He certainly knows how to communicate. Martin O’Neill and Neil Lennon knew how to reach out to the Celtic support but it seems that Brendan Rodgers could show his fellow Irishmen a thing or two about getting the message across.
Since that Monday in May when 15,000 fans turned out to welcome him there has been a very special bond between the manager and fans.
Within a couple of weeks he was being celebrated in song- without having made a signing or taking charge of a single game.
Over the last fortnight he’s been offered the hearts of thousands of fans for Christmas.
It would have been easy for Rodgers to hog the limelight of Celtic’s Betfred Cup success but in every interview he deflected attention towards the club, players and supporters.
The adulation that he received was obvious to everyone watching the events at Hampden but quite clearly it is a two way street.
As the team returned to Celtic Park a small group of fans gathered to welcome the team back, emotion was in the air but once again Rodgers got the message through tob the fans who believe that a very special era is opening up.
