Jozo Simunovic won’t be taking a flight to Turin or anywhere else during the January transfer window.

The Croatian defender seemed certain to be on his way during the final days of the summer transfer window when Celtic agreed in principal a deal with Torino.

After arriving at the Italian club negotiations seemed to break down between the player and the club with the window closing without a deal being completed.

Brendan Rodgers has carefully nursed the defender back to fitness and was rewarded with outstanding recent displays against Sevco and Aberdeen.

Simunovic is being sparingly used once a week but is is no mood to race off elsewhere to try his luck.

Asked if he was expecting a move in January he told The Sun: “I don’t think so. I know some clubs are still asking about me, and I don’t have a problem with that but it’s not time for me to be leaving. I still haven’t shown everything to the Celtic fans.

Probably in the future my time will come for leaving, but it’s not that time now. When I look back on what happened last August I’m happy I’m still here. I’m really enjoying it under this gaffer. Everything is fine for me.

Do I hope the club says No if there’s an offer in January? It doesn’t matter what Celtic say, I want to stay. It’s my decision.”

Simunovic was back in the Celtic side that beat Inverness Caley Thistle yesterday after missing out on the midweek draw against Borussia Monchengladbach.

The win restored Celtic’s 10 point lead at the top of the table with the hoops having a game in hand over Derek McInnes’ side.
